I debated telling everyone myself, but decided against it at the last minute. To me its a very personal choice and I didn't want to open myself up to negativity or judgement. I told about 10 people who are close to me, and already 2 are acting weird around me and not being so supportive. Your friends & family might be totally different and very supportive, this is just what I did. I did this for me, not for anyone else!
  2. Sandra is right. I spoke with my nutritionist yesterday and she confirmed. I haven't lost anything for almost 2 weeks! She said that your body needs calories for your metabolism to function. I upped my calories yesterday and am looking forward to the pounds going down! Don't get discouraged! Keep doing all the right things and it will pay off!!!!!

I agree with Diva, I think you are not getting enough calories - especially protein if you are losing hair. Try upping them with some healthy calories. And remember, a slow loss is still a loss! I know I had weeks when the pounds would NOT come on (before the band)...so I know there will be times when they will slow down coming off, if that makes sense! Keep up the good work! You are such an inspiration and cheerleader for so many of us!!!!!!
  4. So far so good for me! I am down 25 since 7/13 and feel better than I have in YEARS! I have not had a fill yet, but just having that band helps with hunger/portion control. The band is not losing the weight for me, it is just a tool. You have to look at this operation as a lifestyle change; change all your bad habits to healthier ones or else it will not work. It took surgically altering my body, but I am finally on the road to a newer, healthier me! Good luck to you, please keep us posted!

Great job, you are so strong! And I bet you don't feel like you "missed out" on anything! I hope you had a wonderful time with your friends! I just love your blog!!!

I had my surgery 7/28 and my first fill isn't until the first of Sept. I was on liquids for 2 weeks after and am still on mushy food. My doctor said I had to do this so my stomach could heal. That might be why you have to wait for your fill, too. Be patient! You are doing great!!!!

Well, its a week past my post op appointment and I haven't lost anything since! I am down 25 since 7/13 and am very pleased with that, so I am not discouraged. I think I hit a plateau because I am having trouble eating enough calories - about 1000 a day (trying to get to 1200). I boosted my exercise today, so that should help. Anyone else experiencing this?
  8. I was banded 7/28 and won't get a fill until 9/1. I was told to keep my calories to 1200, and that has been hard, I have only been able to get to about 1000 per day. I use myfitnesspal.com to track my calories. I try and choose the most nutrition per calorie as possible and stop eating before I feel full (feeling full comes right after!) Good luck to you!

There's no turning back now, so time to embrace the new you! Get the Chinese food right off your mind. It's not good for you anymore, start (after the liquid phase) thinking about ways to nourish your body, not how to fill it. Remind yourself that failing yourself is not an option, because you are strong and have made this change to better yourself! I promise the pain will go away and you will come out stronger and healthier than you have been in years! Believe in yourself! You deserve the best!!!

I had my 2 week post op yesterday and my PA told me to get my calories to 1200 (I was previously only able to eat 700-800 each day). She also said meals should be 1/2 -1 cup depending on consistency (1/2 more solid - 1 soup like). You should be satisfied with that amount. I am supplementing with Adkins protein shakes for added calories (boy, what a funny concept for me!). Keep away from high calorie foods - she said one of her clients was eating lobster bisque!!!! Go for nutrient packed foods. My first fill is Sept 1! Good luck to you!!!
  16. Wow! I hope you realize what an incredible inspiration you are to us all! Keep up the great work and keep posting!!!!!!

Just be ready for a major caffeine buzz when you have your first cup! I had just finished an iced coffee 2 weeks after my band and 4 weeks after not caffeine. My mind was racing, I was elated, soooooooo happy! Then i realized it was the caffeine! I still chuckle when I think of how it hit me!

This has been a busy & fun week so far! I said in my last blog that I was going to announce to my bunco group that I had done the LAP-BAND®®, but decided instead to keep it to myself. I'm just not ready to "go public". Plus, I know if they are curious, they will ask! I cooked all 16 women a great, healthy dinner and some desserts that were a bit indulgent, and that did not bother me at all! I kept myself busy talking with everyone and really enjoyed myself, the night was a success! Today was my 2 week post op appt and I am down 24 & 1/2 pounds! I feel like a new woman already! Everything checked out perfect & I was released to the "mushy" food stage...oh boy! The one thing I cannot wait for is my 4 week mark, when I can get back to the gym. I have been walking almost every day, and my body really feels like it needs more. Plus, it will help tighten up skin as I continue to lose. I am excited to go to the gym after how many years?? I am embracing every step of this journey and am loving my new life! Thank you God for my continued strength!
  20. I love the Adkins advantage protien shakes. They are about 160 cals, 15g of protien and 1g sugar. They fill me up for about 2-3 hours and are very tastey! Good luck!

Keep positive! You are doing fantastic! Some times the body just doesn't want to cooperate for a split second, then BAM...you'll be down 4! You are an inspiration for me and a lot of others! Can't wait to see your "no more 30's" post!
  22. Great job! Keep up the great work!!!!!

I agree with both posts! Plus, remember, this is a new life for you, a life where food isn't for entertainment but for fuel. So give yourself some healthy fuel, then go out and "eat in" all the beautiful surroundings and exhaust yourself walking and exploring the places you stop! Have a blast!

This is just my opinion........I am a firm believer that marriage is a partnership, regardless of how clueless either partner can be at times. Leaving your husband out of an important health decision like this just because he doesn't understand the reason behind it may damage your relationship in a way that can't be fixed. If I were in your shoes (which I am not, again, this is just an opinion)I would sit him down some time soon and let him know what's going on, let him know that this is a decision you have made to better yourself and that you truly need his support and love. Hopefully, through standing by you, he will grow to understand and be compassionate of your struggle. If he doesn't, at least you have been honest and forthright with him. Good luck to you! This truly is a life changing event!
