  1. At only 3 1/2 weeks post surgery? My nut didnt give me a calorie guideline. Thanks.
  2. I think the heat denatures the protein. I've heard you shouldn't heat protein powders over 140 degrees.
  3. I took off 4 weeks. I think it was the perfect amount of time for me personally, but I am aware some people go back after 1-2 weeks. I used the time to get used to sipping fluids throughout the day, exercising, napping, and getting my protein. Prior to surgery I wasn't sure how my body would deal with the massive decrease in calories. I probably could have gone back after 3 weeks. Totally a personal decision.
  4. I had pain like that when I drank Crystal Light lemonade. I think it was too acidic for my new pouch. Im 3.5 weeks out and still don't feel any hunger. Hope your pain goes away.
  5. Yes! I have been eating about 420 calories a day and not losing. When I upped it to 600 calories I dropped a pound in one day. I think my body was clinging on to every ounce and I was in "starvation mode. "
  6. If you call them they will tell you their requirements for surgery. Good luck!
  7. Thank you, RickM! I'm not actually having one now, but was curious about the future. Appreciate your post.
  8. Oh! That makes sense. I mistakenly thought we'd have to sip, sip, sip the prep liquid!! Thanks!
  9. If you already have GERD, then I'd say, no, do not have the sleeve, as there is a potential to make GERD worse with the sleve. Bypass can cure GERD, but I do not think you are a candidate for bypass either, with so little to lose. Maybe try a medically supervised diet and therapy...?
  10. I'm just wondering how we prep for colonoscopies and drink those 4 quarts of disgusting liquid if we only have little pouches that don't hold that much liquid? Is prep different after bypass?
  11. That's awesome! Great job!.
  12. Try searching for "revision". lots of folks on here first had the sleeve, and had revisions to bypass. Usually for severe GERD.
  13. I recently had RNY gastric bypass done by Dr. Darren Tishler at Hartfird Hospital, which is a bariatric center of excellence. From the initial educational seminar last May, through the nutritional visits, pre requisites, and insurance coordination, Dr. Tishler and all his staff were fantastic. For the surgery, he gave me a cocktail of meds including one for nerve pain, and another for nausea, which the nurses in the hospital said made my experience easier. While in the hospital he visited me every day (I was there 2 nights). I was on round the clock anti nausea meds, as well as pain meds, which kept me comfortable. Their printed guidelines and diet, constipation, and exercise guidelines are excellent and keep me on track, and never wondering what to eat or do next. Dr. Tishler is extremely experienced and skilled. I can't recommend Dr. Tishler and his staff more highly!!! (I'm 23 days post surgery)
  14. Thanks for all the replies! I'm going to wait a few weeks, and then try either scrambled or soft boiled, if at all!!
  15. Thanks, logicwand! I guess this is why my nut said to introduce one food at a time!! Hoping it does get easier as time goes on .
  16. Thanks, Seaforest, and congrats on your 7 inches lost! That's awesome!
  17. Ugh. First time this has happened. I mashed up a hard boiled egg with a bit of light mayo, slowly took about 3 bites and felt like I had eaten a whole pizza! Stopped eating, of course, but it has been 1.5 hours and I still feel yucky. Does this mean I can't tolerate eggs? How long before this gross feeling goes away? (I'm 23 days post op, and still in the puree stage.)
  18. I had bypass because I suffered from GERD prior to surgery. It's gone now, as is my type 2 diabetes. The sleeve may make GERD worse. Bypass is considered the "Gold Standard " but there are many, many successful sleevers here. Do lots of reading of the posts here. Good information is available. Good luck!
  19. Did your surgeon give you a list of foods to eat? I believe on my plan I will be in a regular bariatric diet at 2 months, which means dense proteins first, then veggies. Im not to eat any starch, sugars, or high fat foods. Good luck to you. If you have questions contract your surgeon's office.
  20. Yes, normal. That's almost a pound a day! When have you been able to lose 6 pounds in a week before? keep up the good work! And don't be discouraged.
  21. I'm to avoid things like that on my surgeon's plan.
  22. I think if someone's surgery was denied they wouldn't be hanging around on a WLS support website. You're not going to get many responses.
  23. Wow! I'm impressed, and a little envious of your delicious food! I'm 3 weeks out today from RNY gastric bypass and just started "advanced purees". So far today Ive had 2 protein shakes. And one hard boiled egg mashed up with light mayo. For dinner I plan to have 2 oz ricotta with one tbsp marinara sauce. I start soft foods in one week, and regular foods in 3 weeks.
  24. The first weeks are an adjustment. Things will get better, I promise. I'm 3 weeks post RNY gastric bypass today, and things are good. Hang in there and remember why you wanted surgery. Best to you!
