    Low Vitamin A?

This kind of goes along with my post about low Protein. More lab results came back today, and I am also deficient in Vitamin A. I am waiting to hear from the surgeon about this, but imagine I will need a prescription Vitamin A supplement. Any one else deficient in vitamin A? I do take a high quality bariatric Multivitamin twice a day. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  2. So, I was diagnosed with a stricture and I can barely function because I feel like I am going to throw up at any minute. I'm having trouble tolerating liguids and I don't want to get dehydrated. Even when I sip slowly I have terrible pressure in my pouch and throat. Any tips to make this easier until I have my dilation procedure? Thanks. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. Hi! I had 6 dilations, and the surgeon said I was the worst case he had ever seen! I am 6 months post bypass, and still not on a full "normal " diet, but I'm fine with that. I eat mostly soft and ground foods. I had a very scary, horrible incident of food stuck in my anastomosis this week and almost went to the ER, but after 4 hours it cleared itself. All and all, I'm doing well. Thanks for asking!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    The Maintenance Thread

Happy Birthday, FluffyChix!!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. Ok, so I can't figure out if I should go to the ER or suck it up til morning and call my surgeon. I am pretty sure I wolfed down some chicken without chewing thoroughly and it has been 2.5 hours. I can't keep liquids down, I'm in so much pain, and keep spitting up foam. What should I do to get through the night? Things are not getting better! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. Congratulations on your progress! I know the feeling. I tend to have body dysmorphia and although I've lost 81 pounds since my high weight, when I look in the mirror I look fat to me! As your clothes get loose you'll feel better. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  7. Thank you all for your advice! As I was hemming and hawing about going to the ER, and after 4 hours of agonizing pain and frothy spit, I suddenly felt way better as the food worked its way out! Ugh. What an awful experience! Do you think I stretched out my anastomosis permanently? Or should I be fine? I really need to remember to chew, chew, chew, and maybe avoid chicken unless it's ground!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. Thank you all! I tried a little liquid and it came right back up! I will check of the surgeon has someone on call. What a rough lesson to learn the hard way!! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  9. I spent 2 nights in the hospital and went home late in the afternoon on the 3rd day. I had to be able to sip a certain amount of liquid to get released. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Scared

Oh, my goodness! For every horror story there are hundreds of success stories! I had gastric bypass on March 27th 2019, and it was the best decision I've ever made. Sure, there are ups and downs, but I've lost more weight than I could have on my own, my diabetes is GONE, I'm off all high blood pressure medication, I can go up and down stairs again, etc!! Please take a deep breath and be positive. You got this! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Need encouragement during stall

Yay! Stall is broken! Lost 1.6 pounds in last 2 days! Went back down to no more than 800 calories and that seems to have done the trick. Thank you all for your kind support. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. Ok, so I can dish out advice, but can't seem to take my own advice as related to my current stall of one month. I try eating less, eating more, exercising, etc. And I can't break this stall. I feel like a failure! How long have you stalled for, and how did you break the stall? I can't be in maintenance yet! Help. I need some hand-holding to mentallt fet thru this! Need encouragement during stall

Thanks, all! I do track everything I put in my mouth. Nutritionist recently told me to up my calories from 800 to at least 1000, and that certainly didn't help me to get out of this stall.!! Work out with a trainer 2 times a week, walk every day. I guess I need to drop my calories back down to no more than 800 and increase my exercise and see if that helps. Just frustrated! 14. I crush my psych meds, sleep meds per my psychiatrist. I take a PPI twice a day, and swallow them whole with no problem. I also take Crestor and swallow that whole. I crush the psych meds to aid in absorption. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Calories and Malabsorption

I'm deficient in Vitamin A abd have to take extra over what is in my multivitamin, and I had bypass. Could just be my quirky body! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. I won't sugarcoat it, withdrawal symptoms were horrible! I weaned off the venlafaxine very slowly while adding Prozac at the same time, but even so, I felt crappy. Then I got down to 37.5 mg venlafaxine once a day. Did that for 10 days, then went cold turkey. Felt tired, dizzy, brain zappy, etc. I made it, though! Of course, all was done under psychiatrist supervision! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. I've posted in the past about my experience with venlafaxine post RNY. I stopped absorbing it, and had to taper off while adding liquid prozac. Malabsorption of psych meds is one reason why my psychiatrist did not want me to do the surgery! I'm doing ok now, about 2 weeks post venlafaxine. Good luck on your journey. Considering WLS

Are you meeting with your GP? Mine actually mentioned the surgery to me before I had considered it. Do you need approval from your GP, or just from a bariatric surgeon? I would just be brutally honest, tell her that you've tried diets in the past that have failed, that you're sick and tired of being sick and tired, and are looking to better your future! I'm pretty sure she'll be supportive. If by some chance she does say, no, and you need her opinion, I'd find myself a GP who was on board with the whole thing. Good luck, and please keep us posted! Changed from Sleeve to RNY Bypass

I, too, chose Bypass because of GERD, and I'm glad I did. Taking the vitamins is no big deal. I take a chewable multi vitamin in the am and pm, 3 chewable calcium citrate chews a day, and a vitamin B-12 under my tongue. Easy peasy. Not something to prevent me from having bypass!! Yes, the surgery may be "more complicated" but it is called the "gold standard" for a reason, and has been done for a long time. Good luck!

    Day of info please

Hello! How exciting to be in the home stretch! I had gastric bypass, but only had an IV and they crushed up a cocktail of meds for me to swallow with water before hand. It was neurontin for nerve pain, a PPI, anti nausea meds, etc. I did not have any injections before surgery, but did have injections of blood thinners after surgery. NO big deal. I did not have a drain. The post-surgery period was fine. I was given anti-nausea meds and pain meds with regularity, and never felt nauseous. The pain was very manageable with the meds. Get up out of bed and walk, walk, walk, and take little sips of the beverage they give you to drink, and you'll be fine. Good luck, you've got this!

    Considering WLS

Hi, and welcome! I'm not from Oregon, but have had gastric bypass in March 2019, and had hypertension, diabetes, type 2, arthritis in knees, generally felt lousy everywhere. Now, I'm off my diabetes meds and it's gone! Off my high blood pressure meds! Knees don't hurt, and generally feel great! Best decision I ever made health wise. I had a BMI of over 40, and now I'm in the "overweight" category, on my way to normal. Read everything you can, and ask questions. Good luck with your journey!

    I met my goal!

Congratulations! Awesome job. And you look so beautiful! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  23. Looking for input and opinions from those who've been there. I'm exactly 5 months post op. I had severe complications from March til July which prevented me from eating much. So, I'm progressing slowly on my diet. I saw the Nut for the first time yesterday. I average between about 600 and 850 calories a day. Mostly 600-700. Which feels adequate and satisfying. Nut says in one breath not to track my calories, and in another breath that my goal for now should be 1000 calories a day!! I really don't think I could eat that much with my restriction, and I'm sure I'd gain weight. Now, I know she's the professional, but I live in this body!! What do you all think? Up my calories, or stay the course with what I'm doing? Thanks! By the way, for those wondering, I'm 57. 5'3", and have lost just over 60 pounds with 50 more to go.
