First week weight loss
Well, I gained 10 pounda of water weight in the hospital, so most of this week was shedding that. From surgery day to today, 7 days, I have lost 4 pounds. I actually expect that to go up a little next week.

What meds can I take post op?!
You can take TYLENOL. That's it.

Unexpected Side Effects
Hmmm.. have you had Glucerna shakes prior to this? If so, have you had the gassiness before? My first thought is that there may be lactose in the shakes upsetting your system. As for the peeing a lot, are you also drinking upwards of 80 oz of fluid a day? I'm always in the bathroon, but drink 100 oz a day.

BMI OF 31 AND 35 LB TO LOSE. IS IT WORTH IT?
Something caught my eye about your post...you have GERD, and there is a real possibility that the sleve surgery would make your GERD a lot worse. Do some looking around on this forum and you will find those having sleeve to RNY revision due to severe GERD. So, based on how little you have to lose, and your preexisting condition, My opinion is that you shouldn't have the sleeve surgery. Keep trying through diet modification and exercise. Good luck to you!

I finally got approved!!!

Clear liquids 2 days prior to operation
I'm a wimp, but I took the day off work when I was on only clears and no shakes, but it was only one day. I found that the less I moved around the less calories I needed, and I felt better. I took naps. Drank clear veg broth. It went by fast, and I was less hungry than during the liver shrinking diet.

Post op since 2011
Ok. Take a deep breath. Would you have been able to lose 100 pounds on your own? You've done great losing that weight and should not be so hard on yourself!! I don't know where you started, but my group's definition of a successful surgery is losing 60% of your excess weight. Not everyone loses 100 % of their excess weight. I think you should be proud of your accomplishments!!

Rib pain on inhalation
Hi. She didn't say anything about the pain, but when I spoke to my surgeon's office the nurse was concerned. She said to give it til Thursday to start getting better. And if it doesn't, I'm to call their office. She asked if I was short of breath, which I'm not. How are you doing? Any better?

Post op, swelling and large weight gain
Hi! I hear ya! Had RNY last Wednesday and gained 10 pounds of fluid in the hospital! I have just about gotten down to my surgery weight. I have a severe pain on the left side under my ribcage that really hurts when I breathe. However, I'm doing better than I expected, am hitting 90 ounces of fluids a day, taking vitamins, and trying to walk every day. I'm pretty excited I had it done, too!

Did anyone stop taking their medications early? I stoped all of mine...
I take 40 mg before breakfast.

Why did you stop? How far out are you? My surgeon just put me on Pantoprazole and I don't plan on stopping it as that can cause rebound reflux.

Rib pain on inhalation
Yup. I'm 5 days post op and have exactly the same pain in the same place!! It is the worst of all my areas of pain. Im going to see my GP today for another reason and will ask about it. Feel better!

March 27th surgery date
Hi, Tereza, welcome! I had gastric bypass on the 27th, so Monday is day 5. My stats are the same as yours. I gained 10 lbs of water weight in the hospital and am not yet down to my surgery weight of 229. I am 5' 3.5".

T2 diabeter before surgery, now glucose is 59, help
Thank you. My problem was that it was 7 pm on Sunday night, and hubs and I were really worried. No one to call. I had a shake with a little carbs and sugar, and brought it up without dumping. Will call my doc today, as it's still low.

POst op question

T2 diabeter before surgery, now glucose is 59, help
Just had gastric bypass on Wednesday so I'm 4 days out, and off all diabetes medication. I'm only on clear liquids and protein shakes, and they have very low sugar. How do I get my blood glucose up to at least 70?? If I eat too much sugar I'll have dumping syndrome. Any ideas?

POst op question
Yes! I had gastric bypass on March 27th and also have a bad pain on the left side under my rib cage. It goes down towards my waist, too. I guess it is just inflammationon the abdominal wall. Hope it goes away for both of us soon! Stay well.

Day 3 Post-Op Help
Hi, I had my RNY surgery on March 27th, too. My abdomen is still quite painful, especially on the left under my ribcage. I think pain is normal for 1 to 2 weeks. Like the other posters said, take your pain pills and try gasx. Hope you feel better soon! Hang in there.

Multivitamins?
Don't you also have to take calcium?

Denied by BC/BS Texas
I have BC, and needed Either a diagnosis of Morbid Obesity OR obesity with 2 co morbidities, such as Diabetes and severe sleep apnea. Without those 2 co-morbities they won't approve you at a low BMI. I'm sorry you're going thru this. I know it is really discouraging.

Just had surgery
I feel pretty good except for a sharp pinching, stabbing under left breast. That's the only really painful area. Went for 3 walks today, and drank about 90 ounces! How are you feeling?

Can chewy calcium get stuck 3 days post surgery?
Thank you for this. I go in 2 weeks also, and will ask then.

Can chewy calcium get stuck 3 days post surgery?
I'm 3 days out from gastric bypass. I started my chewable multivitamin because surgeon said to as long as I wasn't nauseous. However, my calcium is the Bariatric Advantage chewy bites, and I'm afraid they'll get stuck at the bottom of my pouch where the opening to my intestines is. Should I wait until I'm on solid food to take my calcium? Thanks!!
