I am new on this forum and just want to say hi and wish all on the journey of weight control all the best. I am just beginning to research lap band surgery, had my first appointment with my PC yesterday to discuss the subject. I have much to learn and I imagine...many battles to fight before I finally have surgery. I am looking forward to talking with you all throughout my journey.

I just learned that I'm tentatively scheduled for banding on July 24. Now, of course, it suddenly seems very real. For those who've already been through it, what do you wish you'd known earlier? Do you exercise as much as you're supposed to? Can you ever eat some semblance of a normal meal? Are you glad you did it?

Hi I am a 58 year old female and am scheduled to be banded on June 20th. I have been spending many hours on obesityhelp.com trying to learn all I can about this surgery and this major change to my life. But one thing I notice when I scroll through the "before and after" pictures is that I have yet to find one who was lap banded. I would love to see before and after pictures and read stories about bandsters. Can anyone point me to the right place for that?

I have struggled with my weight all of my life and have been obese for about 10 years. I am only 28 years old. I am ready for a change. I had considered gastric bypass and was approved about 4 years ago. I did not have the surgery because one week before my date the surgeon was put under investigation. I took this as a sign and went on my merry way (weigh). Four years and some pounds later (in the wrong direction), I decided to give banding a try. :clap2: The only thing is I am now on a different insurance, and I don't think that they will approve this. Mine was an outpatient surgery so I was in at 11:00 and out by 3pm. I had the best experience ever! I am very fortunate because I experienced only mild discomfort for about a day after the surgery. All has been downhill (weightwise) since then. I am down 18 lbs. as of this morning and I feel fantastic! I am, however, also looking for a support group in LA and that is what prompted me to post. If anyone is interested in gettting together, count me in! Anyhow, thanks to all for wonderful posts. Always remember there are peo…

Hi, I was banded on May 30th by Dr Jones at BIDMC in Boston. All has gone very well with the exception of some SERIOUS gas pain in my left shoulder for about a week after surgery. I lost 12 LBS my first week so, I am VERY EXCITED!!!! I, unfortunately, have found myself getting hungry ALOT quicker the last few days tough and it's scaring me! Is this normal?? I won't get a fill for 6 1/2 more weeks!! Anyway, thanks so much for the support I've alreay gotten here just reading other's experiences!

The stuff doesn't taste bad, thats not a problem and I'm really not that hungrey either, it just doesn't agree with my tummy. Can this really be "good for me??" Does it get better? so far I just crash at about 5-5:30 and then cant get to sleep when I go to bed. I'd really like to hear from someone who has done this high protien/low carb diet. I was NEVER a candidate for Atkins. Can it really be done for TWO WEEKS????? :tired Rett

When I called on Tuesday to see oif she had talked to Aetna, she said she had and they had not looked at my records yet so we would have to postpone my surgery until we hear from them. My husband got banded almost 2 years ago, and has lost about 95 pounds, so I've decided to get banded as well. I've had my first consultations, I meet with the surgeon next week. Assuming everything is OK, I'll have surgery most likely the first week of Sept. I want it sooner, but that's what works for my work schedule. I'm 5'4", and 302 pounds. Hi everyone, I'm Sherri from Kentucky. I've been posting here for the last month but don't really know anyone yet. I had debated for the last month to either wait on the insurance company and still pay about half of the cost and wait 6 months on dieting and then if I lost as much as 4 pounds would be under the 40 BMI they require or go on and self pay with Dr. Sanchez in Monterrey Mexico. Then I got to thinking, both doctors here that I've talked to have done less than 200 lap bands and Dr. Sanchez has done more than 5000. That decided for me. Forget the money part, (although I could sure pay a lot of bills with 9,000.00) but it's my health so I'm going for it. …

Don't know why - I didn't even realise that I had done it until some time later. I am paranoid now that the band will slip. Has anyone else ever made the same mistake and the band not have slipped? I eagerly await a response. Barkley from Australia Banded 22 May 2006.
