Hi everyone. I have been reading the boards for about a week and thought it was time to jump in. My name is Eileen and I will be having the VSG on November 12. My surgeon is Dr. Harish Kakkilaya from Woodstown/Salem in South Jersey. He comes highly recommended and I have had good interactions with him and his office staff from the beginning. I have had most of my pre-op requirements completed. I go tomorrow for an echocardiogram and next week for a stress test (pre-existing heart condition). They discovered a hiatal hernia during the upper GI, so Dr. K will fix that when he does the VSG. I still have to schedule a psych eval but the dr I want to see has been on vacation. Insurance has approved the operation. My main goal is to put my diabetes and hypertension in remission.

Welcome! So glad you're here. I share your goal of no longer fussing about my diabetes and high BP (plus sleep apnea). Lurked for quite a while before joining too :)

Welcome! I am a type I diabetic (autoimmune, can't be cured), but I can tell you that my diabetes is much easier to control, hypertension is gone, as is high cholesterol and sleep apnea. Life is good with the sleeve! :)

Welcome Eileen, I am also new here, and I have my first appt with surgeon on August 5 th. I'm not sure what to think, if insurance doesn't pay, I plan on out of pocket. hoping insurance pays. I wish I was having surgery tomorrow, but can't wait for August 5th. Good luck on your journey, looking forward to see your progress.

Hi! I'm new here too, just had my initial appt with the surgeon today and started the process. I'm excited and a bit scared all at the same time. I have type II diabetes and sleep apnea. I cannot wait to lose enough to get rid of the CPAP!

Hello there! Many of us had the hernias repaired so it is pretty common here. My husband and I are no longer on Metformin, and Diabetes was the worst of many issues for my husband. I would say his diabetes is under control finally, however he is still on insulin 8 months after the sleeve. We are each off 1 BP med each, and I no longer use the asthma inhalers. He also does not need the cpap machine anymore. The benefits are amazing and we would definitely do it again in a heartbeat. Good luck!

Hello! Just wondering how you made out? Because I'm interested in having Dr. Kakkilaya do my gastric sleeve?

Thanks

Casey

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
