Fills and doctor drama...

Recommended Posts

Ok so I'm just wondering if I should get a fill or not. The last fill I got was...47 lbs ago. At the time it was perfect. It was probably the first time I was at a sweet spot...but it was at 8cc in a 10cc band. Currently I can eat and get hungry about 2.5 hours later. I also don't really have to be cautious about big bites, never have been, so I'm wondering if maybe it's time again.

Only problem is that my doctor is an a$$ and he told me 47lbs ago that this was it...I was going to have to the rest on my own...I was just a little flabergasted at that...That and he doesn't listen when I say I want a small fill, so I'm going to his nurse to do the fill this time but...for those of you that have lost weight around your stomach/under the band and need a refill, how much of a fill did you get? I'm thinking .25 or a .5? And I really do think that after this one I'll be to goal:)

Sorry for the long post.

I cannot imagine my doctor saying to me you will have to do the rest on your own. What a jerk. My surgeon is in this with me as long as I need her and she allows me to make the decision about my fills when and how much and then we decide together if it is enough or I need more. She leaves the needle in my port and I sit up and drink Water and wait a minute and then decide if I need more. Maybe they can do that for you? If the nurse is willing, then you could start out with .25 and go from there. I am at 6.2 cc's and will be going for my next fill tomorrow. I am now at the point where I do .5 at a time or sometimes even 1 full cc depending on how I feel after I drink the water. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Thanks guys. Do your doctors make you eat/drink before you can go? I have to eat two graham crackers and drink like 10 oz of Fluid in 10 minutes:S I get the crackers down, some of the Water and then pour half of it out--it's worked for me so far. I think my doctor is biased towards gastric bypass--that way he can do the surgery, be the hero and be done lol no more work for him. Oh well...lol

I just have to drink some Water before I leave. Not any certain amount.I was told we need adjustments as we lose weight b/c our stomach shrinks and the restriction is no longer there.

If your band is not full and the Dr. will not give you a fill than find another Dr. I have only had 1 fill, but my Dr. has told me repeatedly that I control weather or not I need a fill, he may choose the amount, but I am the one who decides when.

well I'm in ND so he's about the only fill doctor for miles. Most doctors won't touch "someone" else's patient. But idk, I have his nurses still...and I did go from 212 to 164 with the last fill so...I think I earned another one lol

I am new here and have not ha my surgery yet but. What about a prescription from a weight loss center to help curb your appetite. Of course you need to consult with a Physician but maybe you need to reduce the intake, and Phentremine or some other prescription might help you get over this hump.

na pretty sure a fill is all I need. It's just loosened up again. And I didn't really get the band to take diet pills.< /p>

My Dr's nurse does the fills under a floroscope (sp) After the fill I swallow barium and they watch the flow to make sure it's restricted but not too much. They find the port first with the scope and mark my belly before sticking with the needle too.

I would get a small fill. I am only getting about .25cc when I go in now. I am going in after the first of the year for a small fill. My doc says since I have lost so much he will only do small ones and only every six months or so. He wants to be sure I am working at this too. I get that. Your doc should understand that too.

Good luck.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
