lower Body Lift-2 weeks!!!

Recommended Posts

Can I ask what people have found the cost of a procedure like this to be? I had my first consult this week and am in the research process. Was told by the surgeon that he would recomend an LBL... also said I could pick up another 5 - 8lb in skin weight by doing it.

I saw my family doctor yesterday as well as my band doctor. I am now on Palafer liquid Iron 3x a day. That boosts me from 33 mg of Iron to 300 mg a day. I go for blood tests in 2 weeks to see where I am at. If my levels are good My PS office have an opening October 28th. That gives me 5 weeks to up my levels. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. So far I have had 2 doses of the iron today and my stomach seems to tolerate it.

Hi Mimi,

Thank you for your suggestion. I do take Vitamin C with my iron and so far have been able to take it on an empty stomach (best way for it to be absorbed). Lets hope this works!

Hi Beastbron,

The surgery is very expensive. It is not covered here (Canada) by medical in any way. The total for surgeon, private clinic, overnight stay, assistant and anesthestic is $15,000.00. :blushing: It includes binder, blood thinner injections (after surg) and all follow up appointments.

Hi Mini,

I went for my 2 week blood tests today. I should know by Wednesday or Thursday if Oct 28th will be my surgery day. If my Iron is still really low they may consider an iron infusion (IV) but it has it's own risks and my family doctor may not go for it. She may just want me to continue on with the iron. Anyways...I'm going to think positive!

How are you doing and feeling? How is the healing coming along?

Thanks for checking in'

Hugs

Barb

Have you heard back on your tests yet? Let us know. I'm doing well . . . every day is a little better. Lots of swelling in the afternoon though. Very annoying.

Well I got my results back. I have been on palafer liquid suspension Iron 1 teaspoon 3 x a day (equal to 300 mg iron per teaspoon) and my hemoglobin has only come up 1 point. It is 114 up from 113 and normal is 120-150. They could possibly give me a date Nov. 9th but that pushes my recovery time into the busiest time of the year for me.

I am involved in a lot of Christmas volunteer activities (as well as work) and the timing is just not great for me. (That's even if my iron comes up enough) so I have decided to put it all over till January. My new date is January 18th. I feel really disappointed but relieved in a way. That takes the pressure off.

I saw my family doctor yesterday and she thinks it was a really wise decision. I go for some lab tests to rule out any occult blood (fun stuff...poop on a stick!) Just to make sure I am not bleeding slowly inside somewhere. She says iron deficient anemia does happen to women my age (almost 47, pre-menopause) when your periods are heavier. Also because of my weight loss I don't eat much red meat at all. I am now eating alot more iron rich food...and lots of prunes too! well that gives me 3 months on iron and she is going to book an IV iron infusion for me. She says the infusion is 200 mgs of iron that goes directly into your system. All of it is absorbed. Even when you take large doses of iron by mouth not alot of it is absorbed so this will really help boost my numbers. I feel really great now and participate in fairly intense boot camp twice a week. I can't imagine how much energy I will have once my hemoglobin is in the high numbers!

Thanks everyone for the support and I will post again in January when I know for sure that this is going to happen.

You ladies are the greatest!

Barb:smile2:

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
