Help Bad breath

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 9/20/2005 and ever since I have been home my husband is always telling me I need a mint . I do get a weird taste in my mouth and it feels dry but I do not want to have bad breath all the time . I am also off all of my meds for over a week cause I thought this was the reason for it ,but it is still there , not as bad as when I was on the meds but still there .and now I am VERY VERY scared when I talk to someone that I have fowl breath . has anyone else had this problem and does anyone have advice . I am always having a tic tac and brushing my teeth , mouthwash . it is just a temp cover . please HELP !!

I needed to use Altoids.

Also, I would strongly suggest talking to your doc about going off your meds. You were put on them for a reason ... :D

You're not alone. It's still a problem a year later. You get used to carrying mints with you everywhere.

Put our minds at ease and tell us it was your doctor who took you off your meds - that you just didn't decide to do it on your own.......

Are you still on liquids? When I was on liquids/mushies, because I wasn't chewing, my teeth always felt nasty, like they had a layer of film on them or something. After starting solids, it did get a bit better. I still have to brush my teeth more than before surgery and I do carry a small pack of mints wherever I go (or gum, my doctor is fine w/ gum), but I just chalked that up to the fact that I rarely eat bread or refined carbs now...

Hi

This is something I recently read. If you eat active live acidopholus culture in yoghurt the breath will get better. Yoghurt balances your system out, and you need it especially if you were on antibiotics. The antibiotics kill good bacteria also, so you can get an overgrowth of yeast.

Hope this helps

Its funny to read about the same problems I have had. So nice to not feel alone. My top complaints have been

1. Acid reflux!

2. hair loss!

3. Bad breath!

Search old posts for lots of discussion about it.

There is some good info in this thread. My Husband politely told me last night that my breath was less than desirable. I suppose I'm going to have to eat more yogurt AND carry some mints and gum with me at all times.

Yep, I always have gum or mints or something on me. My 8 year old has no problem telling me I have stinky breath...now if I can get her to whisper it instead of talking at the top of her lungs in a crowd...lol.

LOL...that's hilarious. My 7 yr. old step-son recently hopped up on my Husband's lap to read a story and says to him "Whoa. Talk about halitosis. Get a breath mint or something."

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
