I had my first fill yesterday. It was really a non-event for me. The needle was bigger than most, but needles don't really bother me.

I didn't know it, but I had 2cc's in from surgery. He said with the new bands, they self-calibrate, so they can put some in during surgery. Anyway, he only gave me one more cc for a total of three. So far, I can't tell any difference, and I don't get another fill for two months, so here's to living on will power again.

I actually just got a part time job at a local video store as a means to helping with my weightloss. I am a teacher by day, and this will keep me off the couch at night. I will be up and on my feet for 15-20 hours a week, so this should certainly help, and I'll be able to use the money for my new clothes fund. Yipee!

Good luck to all, and if your fill seems a little light like mine, hang in there. We can do this, and once we get to restriction, it will be a piece of cake (pun intended!).

I Just got my fill today...i'm exhausted from working (2 jobs today) so I don't remember if I already posted...if I did, just stop reading here..lol

If not, it really wasn't bad! I'm terrified of needles and this was just a little uncomfortable..i HATE when people say that, but it's true

I have 5cc's in a 14cc band...didn't feel much of anything but now that it's been almost 12 hours, i feel it getting tighter..WOOHOO! :crying:

Just wanted to share an experience I had after my first fill.

A day or two after my fill, the area was really bruised, there was a small knot, and it was very tender. I figured that some of the saline got into my subcutaneous tissue, kinda like when I start an IV on patients and some saline gets into the tissue and the vein. I kept an eye on it - I didn't have any actual problems with the band or eating or anything like that so I just watched it. Well the knot and tenderness eventually went away but the bruising didn't, so I sent an email to the NP that did the fill. She basically said that there are vessels in your subcutaneous fat that sometimes the needle hits when going for a fill and it is what causes this.

Just thought I'd share! Obviously always check with your doctor, but it was nice to know I had nothing to worry about.

Well, I thought I'd update. I didn't notice ANY difference the day after my fill. However, yesterday (two days after) I did notice a slight bit more restriction. I suppose I was expecting it to be more immediate. Is a delayed reaction common?

from what i've heard, it is. I guess it can take up to a week? I may be off on the timeline, but from what I've been reading lately you don't always feel it right away.

I had my first fill on August 22, a week ago. It was not bad. The needle in my stomach was weird, but that was the worst of it. I had it with the barium swallow also and could see where my port was and the band. That was pretty cool. I got 3 cc's in a 10 cc band. He put me on liquids for 3 total days, then back to solid foods. I forgot to bring my Protein drink (powder) with me and didn't want to buy another expensive container full, I just sort of faked it. I had Soup and sashimi (chewed it to liquid). Didn't eat much either that night, yougurt the next day for Breakfast, then we flew home and I had Soups. I started losing weight then. I was stalled for a couple of weeks before that.

As for restriction, there is some, probably not enough, but I do notice I need to chew more and take smaller bites. I actually had a little turkey get stuck briefly and that was quite an eye opener. I know what not to do now.

I also have trouble with the no drinking after eating. It's really hard, but I'm working on it.

Depending on how this fill goes and if the weight loss continues, I might make another appointment for September when I'm back in San Diego. I was banded in Tijuana and went back there for my fill. I like the doctors.

Good luck to you all.

Wish I could post about my first fill experience, but I haven't had one yet. I was supposed to get it done this past Wednesday (the 26th). I was a couple miles from the office when they called me and canceled the appointment because the doctor was at the hospital with a patient emergency.

Sooo.... it's now rescheduled for Thursday (9/3).

I'm getting ready to do my second fill today. Had my first one a few weeks ago, but haven't really noticed any difference. Have to do this one under x-ray as well, because it seems I'm complicated like that.

I'm looking forward to more restriction. I've noticed that I really don't eat bread anymore, but I can still pack in a lot of other stuff... *sigh*

Anyway, here's hoping today's fill is a success!

Hay all I'm complicated like that too!! I had my first fill actually on the 28th exactly one month post- surgery. I had three ccs put in the 14cc band. I too was done under fluoro ... I think cause I got a bit of extra padding :blushing:. Also I was not numbed that I know of.. h may have used a topical wipe but that was all. Going to call to go back next week because I can still eat a small child . Lord help my children not to appear as cornish hens.

Best wishes all!

Hello eveyone! I was banded 31 July 09 and today is my first fill. I'm a little nervous because I really don't know what to expect. I've lost 21 lbs so far but for the past 2 weeks I really haven't felt any restriction so I'm hoping that this will help. Wish me luck. :blushing:

You know, it's strange for me. I had my first fill done on 8/21, 6 cc's. I can definitely tell a difference when I go to eat things like, bread, white meat chicken, most beef, or if I take too big of a bite. And I definitely do fill up quicker and can tell right away if I've eaten too much.. But. I'm having cravings lately, and nighttime is a bear, I just want to snack.. :/

I go back on the 21st for my second "fill" and I'm reluctant to say "yes! add more!" and then suffer because stuff won't go down, but I also don't want to stagnate and eat too much, or at least too frequently, and not move forward... I'm kind of in a weird spot right now. Anyone else having that problem or had that problem? Ideas to move past it?

I think I could eat oatmeal every day for the rest of my life and not tire of the vast array of fun and delicious ingredient combinations. This morning’s bowl of oats ranks as one of my favorites – along with the pumpkin pie flax oatmeal I made yesterday.

I had my first fill on 08/28. It has been almost a week. They put 3cc's in a 100 cc and I had none in at surgery. I had it done under flouro and all went amazingly well. It was fast and painless.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
