Any one Banded 8/4/09 or 1st week of August

Recommended Posts

August 7th was my date. Happy to see so many August Bandsters! For those with Constipation I recommend Benefiber. It mixes is in just about anything and is pretty tasteless. I also found a Crystal Light that has lots of Fiber in it. As for Protein Shakes I find the Pure Protein pre made shakes aren't too bad. They are low in calories, sugar, and carbs and come in 4-5 different flavors. I've found them at Trader Joe's, GNC, and Target.

Good morning all! I was banded on August 4th and so glad that I did this. I was sore the first few days but feel great now. I noticed my hunger coming back on the 9th but Protein shakes or supplements keep me feeling full.

We're going to be super successful people! Yay July Bandsters!

I felt horrible after surgery and got admitted do to my blood pressure being sky high... but I feel great now.... Still on full liquids but go Monday for first appt to start adding things back.. I have done fine with it. I ordered tons of samples of Protein Shakes and found some that taste just like a milk shake... So I have used those to fill in and they take away my hunger... Hello!

I was banded the 5th in NYC. I was on Clear Liquids for 10 days pre-op and after surgery the following day I started on Mushies/ Soft foods (fish). I have been on Mushies and fish for 11 days now, getting so tired of fish and Soup. Esp. since I can't have any cream Soups. After surgery I was in pain but the morphine pump was my best friend. No gas until a day or two after being home. Now I have really bad shoulder pain on my left hand side and my tailbones sore from sleeping on my back. I also seem to have two of my incisions, including the port one, infected. Hoping I can reach my surgeon come tmw.

I got a fill during surgery, but not sure how much. Felt some restriction after surgery, but I'm sure that was due to the swelling, as I was super swollen the first few days. Still have bloating in the mornings.

Had my first lesson learned the hard way yesterday. Was out all day and hadn't had a chance to eat. Was passed 10 and still no food, so was offered white castle burgers. Took the meat out of two and mushed it up and ate that. Figured meat and some cheese, not bad... wrong. Did not agree with me and in 10 minutes tops I was in the bathroom. Lesson learned.

Also realizing that some things I liked before I no longer enjoy. Like those white castle burgers tasted like pure grease to me, blech.

I was banded on the 4th and have had a terrible time sleeing as I am a stomach sleeper. I usually slept either in the recliner or had started out in bed and ended up in the recliner. I have only slept two complete nights in bed and they were not comfortable for me. Woke up each morning with an aching back. I went back to bed this morning and slept on my stomach YAYYYYYYYyyyyyyyy! I slept until after noon. It felt so good. I can't wait to go back tonight!

So there is hope for you belly sleepers! Thank you Lord!

Hello All,

This is a great thread. I was banded on August 3rd. This will definitely be a thread that I will follow. We can give each other much needed support, and meal ideas. :)

Hey guys and gals,

Banded 08/04 and I have a few questions for you all banded around the same time. How many of you still have steristrips on their incisions? Have they fallen off, curled up, turned brown and ugly? I still have mine on and they have started to curl up around the edges but are still adhered to the incisions so I have left them on. I anticipate they will begin to fall off anyday now. I am ready for them to fall off so I can get a better look at my incisions.

One of my steri-strips have come off. The other 3 seem to still be stuck pretty tight although they are nasty looking. Can't wait for them to fall off! My surgery was 8/4.

I had surgery on Friday August 7th. Five incisions. I had a follow up with a nurse at my surgeon's office on the 14th and he took 3 of the 5 steri strips off and told me to leave the other 2 for a few more days. I gently pulled them off on Monday with no problems.

Hi Everyone! I was banded on August 10th! Everything went well until after I made it home and I got sooooo nauseated and started dry heaving.... appaently the anesthesia they gave me made me have all the naseau. The dr. called in some medicine and I was fine the next day!!!

Because of all the dry heaving I got all my soreness out that one night and I didn't have any pain from my stomach after that.

My biggest problem is getting in the Protein shakes because i have tried many and I'm so sick of them.

I have to say that after 5 different protien shakes I had become sick of them as well, so I cheated a little for about 2 days. I skipped the shakes and ate 1/2 cup of cottage cheese intead. It did not have as much protien as a shake but still had almost just as much. I am back on the shakes though.

I was banded on 8/3/09 in Austin, Texas, and also had a hernia repair. I'm now on soft food and doing very well. I was sore the first three days and had to use the pain meds, and by the 4th day I stopped all pain meds. I'm on soft foods now and I'm very careful with what I eat, and haven't had any problems with vomiting. So far so good!

I was banded on 8/6. After the first couple days I felt great, almost like nothing had happened. Of course the multiple steri strips remind me otherwise! I had my post op appointment today and was cleared for solid food as long as I chew chew chew. I'm so excited, but also very nervous. I don't get a fill for another 4 weeks, and I'm worried the weight loss will stop now that I can eat again. If I had that much willpower, I wouldn't have needed the surgery! :w00t:

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
