Any one Banded 8/4/09 or 1st week of August

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 8/13. I have lost 38lbs on my journey. Had my first fill on 9/30. I really don't have the "full" feeling yet either. I feel like I am eating more than I should be. Well all the readings say you should be eating like 1/2 cup. I for sure am eating more than that. I am happy with my weight loss at this point but I am starting to get discouraged! I go for my next fill on 11/11. I am hoping for some restriction then. Has anyone else been dealing with this???

my restriction comes and goes, i go for another fill tomorrow so i hope that will help, i have lost between 25-30 lbs , I will let you know exact number tomorrow.

sometimes i feel like i am eating more then i should but i write it down and my calorie are right at 1000 - 1200.The greatest thing i have found is i do not eat between meals i am staying full, i love that. sure can't wait to get to my sweet spot. Glad to see all us Aug. banders are doing good, oh my exercise so far i have just been walking , but going to join a gym as soon as weather gets colder.

I was banded on 8/11/09. As of today, 10/20/09, I'm down 35 pounds and feeling really great. I'm well into ONEDERLAND, and I'm ready for the next 35 pounds to go find a new home! No problems yet - have had two small fills, I have some restriction but I'm not strangulated. I watch my calorie intake, along with Protein, fat, and carbs, and just feel better than I have in a very long time! Yay us!!

It is hard not to compair my 23Lbs with someone elses 35 or 40. I don't mean that to be snotty, I realy am happy for those of you who are seeing it all fly off. Meanwhile , I am thinking about another fill, but I thought I might wait a while. Any way how do you know if you need another fill? is there a check list?

I love this website. I was banded for the second time this year on Aug 9th. my first time was Jan 30th but band would not take fills I had surgery in July to see if line had a kink all was well except still could not get fill to work so in Aug they went back in and found a knot in the tubing so they had to replace the band. I have lost 48lbs since Jan however I have gained 3 lbs since Aug surgery. I go for my first fill in this band on Nov 5 so hopefully this one will work. This is the first time in 16 years I have been under 300 and that is a great feeling.

I was banded on 8/4/09. I weighed 154 lbs the day I started the pre surgery liquid diet. As of today, 12/26/09 I weigh 189 lbs which makes me about -65 lbs. I feel great and am so happy that I am able to move again.

I would love to hear how everyone else is doing so far.

Happy New Year!

Hello banders of 8/4/09. It is good to hear that you are doing well with losing weight. My weight in Juine 09 was 188, and now it is 160. I have had two fills and I'm not losing now, probably because of the holidays. I'm having acid reflux issues at night, but I hoping it is because of all of the holiday food.< /p>

I am down 42lbs (was 46lbs in Nov). I have gained 4lbs over this holiday :) I can't wait to go for my fill on 1/4. I still don't get the "Full" feeling yet but sometimes I get my food stuck if I don't chew enough or eat faster than normal. I usually end up throwing up when this happens. After I throw up it is usually easier for the food to go down. I can tolerate certain foods at certain times. Im not sure why this is happening??????? Im afraid when I go and get my fill this time that more things will be getting stuck and I still won't be getting that "full" feeling. Has anyone experienced anything like this????

Hi all, I was also banded 8/7/09, and though I have lost quite a bit of weight, the road has been quite bumpy!!! I had my last fill in November and its still so tight, I had an episode for about 1 month where no matter what I ate I either PB'd or actually vomitted. It has finally subsided and I think I may have had something stuck and because of the constant vomitting I think I had a lot of imflammation, so I stayed on liquids for the last week and was finally able to eat yesterday and today, fish and mashed potatoes and brocolli, which as stayed down, thank god!! I think the worst of it over, just be careful Molliemac when getting tightened as I had not felt tight enough before my last fill and even though the Water went down at the Dr. office, I had trouble eating since the fill. And yes certain foods work at some times and sometimes the same food doesn't at others??? I don't know why this is but you are certainly not alone! Good Luck and remember to keep your chin up and look at the New Year with goals and opportunities!! I sure am.

I had my surgery on 8/18/09 and am down 30lbs. I've been stuck at this 30 lbs for 5 weeks now. Any suggestions on how to get it moving again?

I must admit that I have not followed the suggested diet plan after surgery...I thought that there was n way I could lose weight...To my amazement I got on the scale and since my surgery, I have lost 21 pounds.

That is 4 lbs a month, which is slow, but guess what?! I now know that if I try, I can lose may 2x that much. If not, I will lose no matter what I do.

I think the slower I lose, the better chance I keep it off. I have not exercised at all.

Tomorrow , I will begin exercising at the YMCA... TBC...

OMG!!! I really needed to see this post today. with some weight gain over the holidays, i have only managed to lose 22 pounds..but I can honestly say that it has not been a slow process because of the band. They say eat Protein but I am sure they were not refering to a 10 piece hot wing 2 times per week. So i rededicated myself to the band as of Sunday just passed. Not dieting but making better food choices. Have lost 2.6 pounds since sunday. Exercised everyday so far on my wii and have just realized that i can't focus on what the band "will let me eat" and eat what i know I need to eat. I spent so much time trying to see what i could and couldn't eat that i slipped back in to bad eating habits..had started back frying foods and stuff.. but as I said, sunday was a new start for me and I will reach my goal of losing 15 pounds by Feb 14th....So to all of you that I am sure will find fault in what i did in the past, my response to you before you even start is "Who cares"!!! I recognized the problem and I am fixing it. Everybody has/had food issues or else we would not have needed the band. For my August buddies that started this journey with me, thanks for keeping me posted on your weight loss and thanks for all of the encouragement that you give by your posts!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
