Any one Banded 8/4/09 or 1st week of August

Recommended Posts

I think my stomach is hitting my ribs. My port is on my right. On my left side I feel like a strained muscle but its not, I think its my stomach. Its goes from under my boob down and around my ribs to my shoulder blade. What could this be? I cant sit down, there's pressure. I can't turn, its pulls. I can't lean over, it hits. What could this be?

Hi August Bandsters,

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. I can't wait to move on to mushies next week, I agree I want something salty (and crunchy but I know that will still be awhile.) My big problem is TMI coming, I am so constipated, I haven't pooped in July 30, I have tried, colace, coffee, apple juice, even milk of magnesia, I even resorted to drinking a protien shake, ( I am allergic to milk and the Protein Shakes give me a dumping syndrome type thing) you can tell I am getting kind of desperate. But other than that I am feeling really good, I love the band, and doing okay on eating, I have only been really hungry yesterday at lunch, so far so good. Hope everyone else is doing well.

Hi all!!

I was banded on 8 5 09 here in Atlanta, Ga by Dr Titus Duncan. I am feeling good. I went back to work on yesterday (8 10 09) and considering I work from home, everything was fine. This mornings I was able to get down about 2 -3 ounces of international coffee for Breakfast at about 7am. Then about 12 noon, I had 1/4 cup of cream of potato Soup with a pinch of cheddar cheese shreds on top and 2 teaspoons (literally) of swiss miss chocolate pudding. I am satisfied so far. I have 8 ounces of crystal light sitting by my desk waiting to start drinking it. My goal for this week is to start trying to get my Water in and to try to get back to walking. My love is swimming but I can't do that until 4 weeks post op..I still have problems with "head hunger"..I cooked smothered pork chops, rice and a tomatoe, basil and onion salad for my family last night and would have traded my first born for just one spoon of rice and gravy!!!:sneaky: but I didn't eat it, i sat down with my family and had cream of potato soup and 2 ounces of apple juice...hope everyone is feeling good and making great strides towards recovery..:w00t:

Hi All -

I was banded Friday August 7th in NYC. I'm on liquids and find that I'm hungry, but once I eat I'm good. Not getting enough Protein, so I tried Isopure today...horrible aftertaste, but I'll drink it. I wanted to let you all know that we have an August group that we formed a while ago. If you go to the home page of the forum and scroll down you'll get to 2009 Bandsters. Under that you'll find August 2009. We've got a group name and a great group of ladies and gentlemen there. I know some of you have found it already but I thought I'd let the rest of you know!!

Good luck everyone!

Jen

Everyone seems to have the same pains. Do you believe, I have NOT been hungry once?! Wouldn't it be great not to even need 1 fill?! I doubt that will happen. Out of boredom, I make chicken salad in the blender! I was just sick of getting my Protein from something sweet! It wasn't as bad as it sounds, but tomorrow I may have to give my dogs a treat! I think the hardest part for me is to remember not to lift more that 10lbs! I hope everyone is feeling better tonight!

I am responding to your statement. I was on Clear Liquids for 3 days and full for ten days. My pain I was having was hunger but the gas pain was over powering the hunger so I couldn't tell the difference. Therefore I had to start thinking like a nurse. I decided to try some yogurt to see if my pain would stop. The got much improvement after I ate the yogurt. I was just hungry. I still have liquids but I also have a 4oz serving of food in baby food consistency. I feel great and I'm still losing weight.

A lot has changed for me in the past few days. I'm finding that my body isn't really hungry, but when I smell foods, I think that I'm hungry. I actually am having trouble getting enough of the Protein and liquids that my dr requires. If I drink too much too fast, I am so uncomfortable.

Maybe I spoke too soon. After not being hungry, now I seem to be and I am walking about 30min per day and it seems to be irritating my incisions. I sometimes really ache on the left side where the big incision is. Also, where they made the incisions seems to be lumpy now. Does anyone know if that is normal? I guess I am just anxious because I don't have my firt post-op appt until next week and I am worried I will not continue to lose weight. I want to keep this momentum up but I have to be realistic and not expect too much. Just feeling a bit down tonight.

Maybe

8/4 here! I'm getting better each day except I feel like a bloated tick. And I'm a little upset that I have gained back 5 pounds since I started on mushies on Monday. Seriously, how can anyone gain weight on less than 700 cal a day?! Can't wait for my 2 week follow up and talk to the nutritionist. Otherwise, I am very excited to get going and to get healthy!

Totally jealous of you early August Bansters! My surgery isn't till next Friday the 21st.

As for the lady who hasn't had a bowel movement since the 30th -have you tried the Fiber mix you can find anywhere - you cant taste and you can put it in your Water and disappears clear?

I go to the Dr for my checkup on Monday Ill let u know what he says about port pain.

Happy day!

Thanks for reminding me I am doing a little too much! I need to ask for more help from my children. It's hard to do but I deserve it! LOL I am having a much better day today and have my appointment next week. Is anyone missing or craving the bad foods that you got you here to begin with?! I have noticed that lately and I guess just like anything else, this is a PROCESS and good and healthy behaviors take time and repetition to make lasting change.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
