Forgot this- bad news for my friend Jacki. Had her gall bladder out a few weeks ago. Oncologist told her yesterday it was cancerous. Said it is extremely rare for breast cancer to spread there. Also she has cirhhosis of liver, probably from bout of hepatitis in 1968. So now have to find balance beteeen fighting the cancer without further dama

age to liver. Liver enzymes spiked when on drug they want to use after only 8 days so they had hrr stop until after the sirgery. Started back on it today at 2caps 2X a day instead of 3 like before and check enzymes again in a week. Has to wear gloves to take capsules!! Very potent!"

OMG about Steph... Brandy (the pin up girl) - Julie - Karri - Laura - Steph - and I know someone else too - can't think of who - but alot of pple getting bands removed - Watch what you eat - don't over fill your pouch - I think that has something to do with it. Not sure - since I'm not a doc - I think it's a combination of placement - and how you take care of if and the luck of the draw..

Well - not much to report - work home - playing my fb games - that's about it..

I am going to bed early tonite - I am on the pooped side..

Janet, You are right, we have to take care of our band so the band can take care of of us. I know that when I was vomiting blood I was terrified that I had slipped my band and before that I wasn't always being careful. Now I am totally listening. Yep I still sometimes each what I shouldn't, ice cream, but I work to NEVER over eat. I'm not perfect, but hell I know that I would never be able to convert to something else. But it is sad and scarey to see people we know have trouble.

Phyl, I am so sorry about Jackie. She is strong and a fighter. She is in my prayers.

I finally have made an appointment for a mammogram...don't yell, its been about 5 years....

Janet, I am in Helena, about 3 hours away from home. Sitting in a hotel. Did some homework. But at least it isn't 100+ degrees today. Warm, but not brutally hot. Now being a slug and watching TV. Phyl are you going to the docs tomorrow?

Steph is out of surgery and doing fine ...

Karla - I work on not over eating - but sometimes it happens - I am really trying - so many pple are losing their bands - some of it is our fault - Ice cream slder - so that's not so bad for the band - it's when we eat too much food.

Glad you are going for your Mamo - I need to call and get my appointment... I have been going every yr since I have had my band... Pretty good for me since I'm not a doc person..

well off to the gym 114 here today

I just called Steph - She's back at Jeff's cousin's house - I think I may have woke her up - she sounded weak - said was in pain - but to be expected - had a lady doc who was just written up in Newsweek or something like that - leader in bariatric surgery - said that Steph most likely had been slipped for a couple of yrs.. She may ck into Mexico & sleeve once she healed.

That would explain all the problems she has been having for such a long time. Hopefully now she can get healthy and back on track. Thanks for checking into how she is doing. What a horrid experience.

So sorry to hear about Steph. Yeah, this band is not the total answer. That's for sure. I hope things go well for her now. thanks for letting us know.

And Phyl, your friend Jackie: Sounds like she's in for a fight. Not good. I'm sorry to hear that as well.

My hip is doing well. Still hard to get up from the floor when playing with babies, but all on all, I'm better than i was last summer. Getting my eyes checked today and new glasses. Hate picking them out. I need a second opinion as it's hard to see what they look like in mirrors.

Well it's finally hot here. 90's. No complaints from me!

oh yeah, Linda we are NOT allowed to complain about the hot weather , especially after our LAST winter!!~!

Glad Stephanie is doing well after surgery... Poor dear.... I posted to her on FB so hopefully she gets those good wishes.

Karla, there has been Health Advisory for Hot weather in ALberta, so I imagine that is the same weather system that has you HOT too... do you have A/C?

this is the first summer that we've had our A/C on for years... maybe put it on once last summer... This year, its been on for a whole week already!!! Peter is weakening!!! LOL

Down in the basement, where my computer is - is quite comfortable. I should be sewing down here, but I'm reading like a fiend lately... I love my E-reader and havn't put it down. Still reading novels by John Jakes. They are historical (accurate) novels where he follows family's.... kinda like ROOTS but written before ROOTS.... also kind of like the THORNBIRDS....

Anyways, if you are ever interested in American History from England to now... read this guy... he is awesome - fasinating....

I always wondered what I'd do "after Oprah" well, now I know.... reading books!!! oh yeah, and singing.... LOL

ALthough I have to admit, this month there have been too many gigs. Its starting to feel like a JOB... B)

But in AUg 3 gigs, Sept 2 gigs, Oct 4 gigs, NOv 2 gigs, so far Dec only 1.... so it is going to quiet down... PLUS Mark is between jobs and he is applying for a COOKING job. If he gets that.... it will put the kybosh on evening and weekend gigs...may have to get a new player if that happens. YUK

If you never hear from me again, know that Mel killed me. I ordered 2 pair of designer frames (one was sun glasses). After getting all the extras, the price was over $900! OMG. What was I thinking? I'm going to have to be VERY good! But this is the last time i'll have flex spending which will cover most of it. . . (he won't buy that). The glasses are pretty nice.

Carla, I'll try PM you with my email address

Its KARLA with a "K", you are too funny!!!

Mel will not kill you! Its covered by FLEX? wow that is good coverage, might as well use it while you can. $900 for 2 pair of Rx glasses sounds about right for Canada prices too. That's why I bite the bullit last year and got LASIK surgery on my eyes... I love it... It was $3800 but I'll never spend that again on glasses so its a bargain...

I just went last week for my annual check up and my vision is 20/15.... that's better than 20/20 ... So I am a happy camper.

Linda, sent us photos of you in your NEW glasses...

Good Evening Peeps

OMG talked to Melissa last night - she was crying over food - Did any of you do that after surgery - I thought it was cuz she was hungry - but she's not - she has no hunger she has to make herself eat.. She just want to eat for the sake of eating - she said it made her happy -

I told her food did not really make her happy that she was stuffing down her feelings w/food - she needs a shrink and go to support groups - Just like us they banded our stomachs but not our heads - with her they cut out her stomach she has no hunger - but her brain is telling her - oh you f'd up - why did you do this - now I can't eat a loaf of sour dough bread w/butter - tortillas w/butter - bowls of Pasta and rice.. She's doing better today - told her to sign up Sleevetalk.com

Linda 2 pairs for 900 isn't that bad - I need to get my eyes ck'd

Candice LOL Gigs = job..

113 here today per my car ;0)

Sorry Karla! I knew that!

So he didn't kill me, but he was not happy either. I sure hope the styles don't change too much in the next couple of years; I'm not updating again any time soon!

Now I need to find some clothes that fit and are appropriate for a site visit. Janet: I'll be in Long Beach Aug 3 and 4, and then in Pasadena for the weekend. Any chance you want to make the drive for a shopping trip? Old Town Pasadena? Other ideas? I' trying to talk Mel into renting a car. If he does, maybe we could meet somewhere in-between? We've got quite a Trip planned. First to Candice's, then Niagara Falls. Then to Chicago to catch a plane for LA.

Babies coming this morning for a little while so mom can run a few errands without them. Yippee! I feel so blessed to be able to have them so close. It's not going to be the same with the next one. I hope that I can bond with her the same as I have with these two. Mel is making a cradle for them and I just ordered the bedding. We're having a shower for them next month, so we're hoping to have it ready by then. Karla, when is your baby due? Is Elyse getting her baby bump?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
