was your tummy swollen afterwards?

Recommended Posts

I am 12 days post-op and am still quite swollen. I have lost 10 lbs. and pants that fit me before surgery do not button. I read on another post-surgery site that sometimes post-laprascopic swelling can last months! Despite the weight, I always had a small waist......oh well. I just starting icing today and plan on taking some powdered bromalain...a pineapple extract supposedly that reduces surgery swelling. Will let you all know if it works!

I'm just at two and a half weeks out now and the swelling I had is mostly gone now. Though right around my port is still numb-ish. My doctor said on Tuesday that it was fairly common, but it weirds me out.

I guess i should put an update here! Turns out i had/have a huge hematoma. I knew something was not right....I had surgery on 7.23.2009 and I noticed the swelling the first time i saw my belly. I was generally swollen but my port site was huge...enough to make people think i was secretly pregnant!! I did try to ask around here but I was on morphine (stayed overnight at hospital) and I know my questions were not descriptive enough!

So i had the swelling but no brusing. Everytime i would get full or get gas It felt like the two largest incisions were going to just burst open! I would hold my stomach (reduce the tension/gravity) to alievate the incisions. I returned to work 9 days post op and at ten days post op i began to feel like a train hit me. I could hardly walk or speak and finally my port incision started to leak and now i have some relief. Today is thursday and i have been bleeding nonstop since late sunday/early monday..but the pain is gone. My pain was so bad that hydrocodone did nothing for me!! Im losing so bad much Fluid that i lost 3lbs in two days! But its all old blood not active bleeding.

So if you know something is not right...it probably isnt. My surgeon kept sending me home until i showed up bloody and hunched over and not able to walk...then he admitted something might just be wrong. Thanks for reading...i know i can sometimes be too longwinded!!!

Lilpeach I am so sorry to know you went through that. You do not need to apologize for sharing your journey. You could possibly help someone else identify a problem in the future. I pray that you are on the road to recovery and that being banded will now be a positive tool in your life.

I just found out that I have a hematoma too. Well, I described my puffyness below my port site and how it was a slightly different color and my nurse said that's what it was. She said if it got bigger or started bothering me to come in and they'd drain it. She said most of the time the body will absorb it back in so I'm giving it until Wed then if it's still there I'll probably go in.

I wish they would have offered to drain mine!!! The pain was unbearable at first...triple the pain from surgery!! I think mine is done leaking (7 days later) but I still have this orange/yellow discharge....spoke with surgeon over the phone and he said it was just old blood. Im not too sure about that...but he did give me antibiotics so thats good. Now im afraid my incision is going to open up even futher because its constantly wet (from blood) and the glue that was holding my incision together slid off from being wet all the time. It is slowly stretching open but i hope all goes well.

OMGosh! That is seriously scary! I had surgery 3 days before you and all my incisions are nearly healed. I also have no pain from mine either so I guess I'm lucky there! I hope yours continues to get better!

(((many hugs)))

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
