Hi everyone, my name is Angie and I am from Manteca, CA. I am 213lbs and 5'6" going to Mexico for self pay. I was a normal healthy kid and joined the military after high school. This kept me in good shape until I finished my time in the military and had my first child. I was up and down after that. Now, another child later at my highest weight I have decided that yo-yo dieting is no longer for me. So now I'm doing something about it. My surgery is scheduled for August 18th and I start my pre-op diet on the 4th. I'm so excited but incredibly nervous too.

Hi Guys!

My name is Kellie and I am a very busy personal assistant supporting three senior managers at a gold/copper mine in New South Wales in Australia!

I am 27 years old, 5'4" and approximately 240lbs.

I have just 14 days until I commence my pre-op diet, 25 days until my family arrive to be with me for the surgery, and just 28 days until I am banded on 18th August 2009 by Dr Henry Hook.

I am excited and terrified all at the same time, but I can't wait for the results!

Wishing you all the best and looking forward to sharing this experience with you!

Hey everyone, I'm jen...36, live in NYC. I'm on day 2 of the liquid diet and so far so good. I'm currently 286 pounds and 5'8. Surgery is scheduled for August 3rd with Dr. Fielding in NYC. I've been overweight most of my life but had great success on weight watchers about 8 years ago. Dropped to 186.2 pounds! However...you know when you go to the ocean and you run to the Water, it's too cold so you run away. That was pretty much 186 for me. Maybe there for about an hour! Looking forward to this journey!

Jacquie - thanks for letting me know this thread was here!! ;-)

Hi! I'm Sarah from the Dayton Ohio area. I'm being banded on August 17th by Dr. Curry. I'm glad to find this site with all the support!

I'm 27 and started gaining weight in college and after 3 kids I'm up to 230. I've tried many kinds of diets and most work great for about 2 weeks then I gain it back plus (I'm sure you know the feeling!) I'm excited for this Lapband journey to get underway! :bored:

Hi, My name is Brenda. I live in NH and am being banded on August 20. I am 5' 6" and weigh 243.

I actually have insurance approval already. I got it in one week (and actually the 4th of July was that week as well).

Our doctors at Cheshire Medical Center are working to become a center of excellence to make it go smoother with insurance companies.

I have been heavy for the last 20 years. I have a multitude of health issues, which is why all my doctors and the insurance company were ecstatic when I decided to go this route.

I have apnea, asthma, high cholesterol, high BP, high triglycerides, fatty liver, osteoarthritis, metabolic syndrome, compromised immune system (no IgA, limited IgG and IgM that goes whacko - hence the diagnosis of Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia -- a rare blood cancer).

So...I am currently receiving IVIG (blood product collected from 10,000-30,000 donors) once a month due to an infection my immune system couldn't fight.

This surgery has been added as a benefit to our health care plan (I work at the hospital) so there is a steady supply of support people for me there. It's amazing to see the transformations in people's lives, not to mention that they look fantastic.

So glad I found this as well.:bored:

Hi everyone. My name's Brooke. I'm going to be 32 onb Aug 08. I kept saying I was going to be banded in earlier posts on Aug 07, but my husband pointed out to me last night that I am a day late- it's actually the 6th

I currently weigh about 270. I have been as high as 320+. Since puberty I have been fat. I'm having the surgery because about a year and a half ago I lost 70 lbs (from the initial 3210+).

I knew that I was still fat in most people's eyes. But it was a huge accomplishment me for me and changed my life. Suddenly I was more comfortable in my own skin. Shopping/dressing was easier and I was able to move more.

I want that feeling back, and then some. Like everyone else here I want to enjoy life more and just really live it, instead of wishing I did.

Good luck everyone. I will keep checking in as often as I can. This site is so helpful.

Hello Everyone!

My name is Katie and I live in San Diego, CA, I am single, never married, 45, and have a wonderful yet crazy Vizsla named Eva that I love very much.

My surgery date is August 26th, 8:45am. I can't wait! I have my pre-op appt. August 13th and will do a 5-10 day liquid Protein diet. He will tell me at my pre-op whether I am 5 or 10 days or something in between.

I work in the Law Department of a big consumer electronics company managing systems, accounting, corporate books, staff, and anything else that needs attention to keep our department going.

I've had a weight problem all of my life, which I am sure most of you can relate to! I did lose 100 lbs on the "Phen Fen" craze in the mid 90s but managed to put it all back on over time and more. I am currently around 300lbs and 5'8" tall. I've been told "I wear my weight well".. I just always say my weight doesn't discriminate, its spread out all over me!

I first thought about the band a couple of years ago, and then had a weird bout with bone cancer (right second toe.. amputated), but that since is over all ok with the exception of a lost toe (that I don't miss, even wear thong sandals no problem) and I am now ready to do something about the weight!

Fortunately I don't have any health issues, all testing for diabetes, cholesterol, blood pressure, etc. is normal.. but, I don't want to get something down the road that is irreversible.

I've been told by a couple of doctors that "my body doesn't think it is overweight", and it fights it, which I think is what happens to most of us. I am hoping that the band does the trick!! At this point, what do I have to lose other than a lot of weight! :-)

A turning point for me was hearing that only 1 out of 20 morbidly obese will ever be able to keep the weight off without the help of surgery (per CDC, NIH). That was a wake up call.. can't beat those odds!

I wish us all luck over the coming months and look forward to getting to know each and every one of you to cheer you on!

Remember to not worry too much about the destination, but enjoy the journey!!

Howdy Y'All!

My turn to share

I just turned 31 a few weeks ago. I'm 5'7 and my highest weight was 336. Currently I'm 315. I have been married to a wonderful guy for 7 years and we have a 4 year old son together.

My weight problem began once I hit puberty, though my bad eating habits developed way before then. Back when everything was cooked in bacon grease and butter, I developed a taste for fried and greasy foods. Sweets not so much, but pass the french fries!

My health problems began 4 years ago when my son was born. Before then, i was 27, not a care in the world, reasonably healthy for my weight, surprised that I hadn't gotten diabetes *and still haven't* as it runs quite rampant in my family. When my son was born, it was via emergency c-section after 32 hours of labor, he was pretty stuck in there. A few days after the surgery I developed 2 Pulminary Embolisms in my lungs. Suffice to say a month in the hospital and several years later I have had a multitude of problems related to my health.

I've decided to risk the surgery, even though I'm not a good candidate for surgery in order to get my life back on track. I want to be there when my son graduates from high school, gets married, etc. I want to feel young again, shop at normal people stores and most importantly, I want to have another child.

Am I scared? Most definitely. Am I ready for this? You bet. Will I still get cravings for bacon? Probably. But nothing can possibly taste as good as being thinner feels.

What caused the delay do you know?? That is so frustrating!! Well, the good news is you should still be okay. I submitted on July 2 and even with the July 4th holiday I received my approval on July 14th, so realistically about a week/week and a half. I know insurance's are all different, but they should try and push it through at this point. UGH!! Sorry that you have to deal with that!

Hi fellow-bandsters! My name is Brenda and I live just southeast of Houston, TX. I am a young 51, have 4 grown children (2 boys, 2 girls) and my 10th grandbaby is due in January. I have 5 yorkies to replace the kids. So, you ask... how can I be overweight with that much energy in the house. Well, I get tired just watching these little dogs..lol! Actually my thyroid no longer works and I have just been diagnosed with dibetes.

My surgery date is Aug 25th!!! Scared and excited at the same time. Have the most wonderful husband and family. My two daughters are nurses and are very supportive.

My doctor is Dr. Wilkenfeld, and he and his staff are great! Have my Pre-Op on the 10th and start my Pre-Op diet then. He just wants me to replace 1 meal and 1 snack with a Protein shake and eat high Protein, low-fat for the other two meals. That shouldn't be too tough.

I am 5'7" and weigh a little under 230. So I just barely made it under the radar. But I certainly don't want to wait till it gets even worse. My PCP, OB-Gyn, Urologist and Cardiologist all think this is the right thing for me, as traditional diets don't work. Especially with the on-set of diabetes.

I work in the Oil and Gas industry. I am a Process Control Specialist and absolutely love my work. I have to travel periodically to go out 'in the field', so I really need to lose the weight. Sometimes I have to go out in the units and crawl through pipes and behind control cabinets, etc. I am hoping this 'tool' will be the answer to my weight problem.

Anyway... sorry about droning on and on. I am really looking forward to this new life's journey with everyone.

No real good reason... just that she wanted to get a couple together to submit a group at a time...

I have BCBS so Im hoping everything goes okay and quickly . How's day 4 of the liquids ?? hang in there !!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
