Not drinking before/during/after meals...

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I'm doing really well with the amount of food I eat and all of that, nothing like that has been bothering me, I'm not even tempted by other peoples "bad" food anymore. BUT, I am having a really hard time getting used to not drinking before/during/after meals. Especially, during. Anyone else having this problem? I just felt like venting a little bit because for some reason, it seemed really difficult for me this weekend. I didn't give in, but it's been hard. :)

I just take little tiny sips. It doesn't seem to stop me from eating too much if I wanted to. However, my first fill isn't until two weeks yet.

After surgery I would set a timer after I ate and was really strict about the 30 min before and 1 hour after. But now I've loosed up some. It is really hard, especially when you feel like your dying of thirst.

My doc told me to listen to my body. A little Water won't hurt. Just be careful. Talk to your doc and ask him what he thinks. One thing I try to do to satisfy that "no drinking during a meal thing" is to eat something very wet....watermelon, yogurt, etc.

I think in the long run, once you have wiped out old bad habbits and start to replace them with healthier, lapband friendly habits...things can be eased up on some.

I agree with the previous poster, I always try to end my meal with something wet, like fruit or yogurt. It makes a huge difference!

Thanks everyone! I will try that tip about something wet at the end of my meal. I haven't done that. I will try that at lunch! So far I haven't really given in to sipping anything before or during, but I have the toughest time AFTER! Ahh.. Oh well, if this is the worst of my problems, I guess it's not that bad! Cheers everyone!

half hour to an hour to wait to drink after a meal would seem like Heaven... my dr wants me to wait at least 1 1/2 hours and they really are pushing 2 hours on me... that is extremely difficult especially when i feel like i'm dying of thirst, but maybe for me, it's becuase i'm not losing right now. I have 2 fills, i'm watching my calories (between 1100-1200/day), i'm walking at least 3 miles 4-5 times a week but i still haven't lost very much.

right now i'm frustrated/de-motivated becuase of all this and i'm still not losing... but i have my 3rd fill coming up ina couple of weeks so hopefully that will make a big difference.

Oh my goodness, 1 1/2 hour-2 after eating???? YIKES! I would not do well with that at all!

When were you banded? Are you going through bandster hell do you think? I'm sure your 3rd fill will help! Good luck!

I sip during meals if I need to. I know that we are not supposed to, but that has been the hardest for me. I only sip Water, and it hasn't caused me to eat too much yet. I was banded 5/19, and am still losing, after 1 fill.

This is the only rule I have not been able to follow. I have tried, but just can't. I do not have a problem with not drinking after a meal, it's the during the meal that I can't handle. So I am a during the meal sipper . Bad Bad, I know!

From what I remember I think the only reason we shouldn't drink before is so that we don't fill up on Water, therefor not getting enough nutrition. After, so that we don't have a problem with over filling.

Does anyone else remember if that is correct?

I do take little sips if I need to. It's funny, I have more touble getting Water and mashed potatoes down than most things. Everyone is so different.

I was told that drinking Water during and after would help push the food through so you would less likely feel full after a small amount and you'd be more likely to get hungry sooner after your meal.

This has been the hardest issue for me as well, especially drinking with Breakfast. So I've been taking sips of coffee. I've had one fill and am losing well (50 lbs since 4/09), but my major concern is whether there's any danger to doing this. If the only problem is that you may get hungry sooner, then I figure I'll stop drinking when my weight loss goes down or stops altogether. So, have any of you heard anything about dangerous side effects to drinking with food? (By the way, my doctor said I could drink coffee.)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
