I live in Colorado Springs and was banded by Dr. Scott Fisher with the Colorado Springs Surgical Associates.

Colorado Springs Surgical Associates is part of the Penrose-St. Frances Hospital system.

They have two locations:

I fly from WA to use Dr. Kirschenbaum in Aurora (very close to you). He is wonderful. He charges just $15.00 for patients who had their ops through him. I don't know what he might charge for folks who have moved there. You're lucky to live so close to him!

Hey there! I live in Aurora also! Do you know for sure that your Doc will see other surgeon's patients? I'm thinking of having my band done out of the country and I would like to have a regular Doc to see here in town rather than a Fill Center Usa person... just for the comfort and location!

Thanks:)

Why would you go out of the country when you live so close to such a great surgeon who does the procedure for so little? I paid cash, under 10,000. (including the airfare and hotel for two people) to have Doc Kirshenbaum do my surgery, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him. He charges next to nothing for the aftercare, too. I wish I were lucky enough to live closer to him for the regular care. I know you have to make the decision that is right for you, but I am just so happy with Doc K that I think that everyone needs to go to him!

Wow! That is a great price. I have never heard of him. Where did you hear about him?

He is one of the more accomplished lap surgeons in the country. You can find his info under Lapbandrockies.com. He has done more than 10,000 surgeries going back since the early 70s from what I understand. I think he's done some of the first of the different types of bariatric surgeries, as well. I couldn't be more pleased with my decision.

Do you have his phone number? I live by boulder and went yesterday for my 2nd fill thru fill centers USA. I felt I didn't have much restriction and wanted a bit more saline. I had lost 7 lbs in the last 4 weeks and the Dr didn't want to give me anymore. I have played a lot of tennis and felt that it was my factor In the 7 lb loss. The dr told me if he put in more and it was too much I would have to tough it out. He said this isn't wall mart and I couldn't call 72 hrs later to get some removed

His attitude from the time he came into the room has that he was mad anyway I don't trust hom anymore and don't want him to do my fills I paid 165.00 for this fill I didn't get. I am still negotiating will fill centers on a refund. Am I bring unreasonable? Help

Sue, I don't know if you're being unreasonable or not. I have no way of knowing about your medical situation. 7 lbs in 4 weeks is quite steady weight loss. I wouldn't have gone in if I were losing at that rate, but that's my comfort level. I am losing a little hair at a much slower rate, and I wouldn't want to push my luck.

It is not a popular opinion, but I believe that my doctors are far more educated than I am. If I ever have cause to believe otherwise, I move on with my business. I am not paying that much money to someone who can't give me sound advice that is at least better informed than I am on the matter of human physiology. I have gotten into a little hot Water for saying this on the message board before, but I do believe that it is far more involved than shopping for shoes.

I can't say in your case, but it sounds like you feel that there is a miss-match between the two of you. If you decide that it is not working out with your doc, I recommend Dr. K without hesitation. You can Google Lapband Rockies to find his information. I hope you find a resolution that makes you feel like your concerns were heard. Take care.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
