Best of luck on your surgery! I was banded by Dr. Smith on 1/27 and I have lost 75 pounds so far. In my opinion, he has excellent after care.

I am doing pretty good besides having nausea and then dry heaving. It does not feel good at all. I went to my follow up today and the doc said all looks good. Tomorrow I can eat Soup as long as it is blended with no chunks. I hope this helps with the nausea.

I'm having suregery Nov 4th too. I've only heard good things about Dr Smith.

Judy when you went to your post op appointment was it given at the same time with a man and his wife and little girl. If it was that was me. I thought I may have heard you yesterday when you were at the hospital. I hope all is welll for you.

That is great that you are doing so well. The first few days are the most uncomfortable. By the time you reach two weeks out you will barely know that you had surgery. Except of course for the actual eating process!

I really hope that you start to feel less nauseated when you can actually eat something.

Take care and congrats!!!

I got up this morning and was able to take a shower. I was feeling a little nausea getting out of the shower. My wife made me some Malt O Meal. I was able to eat some of that and then for lunch I ate some Soup that was blended up. So far I feel better then yesterday. Maybe I will just get better from here on out. I guess it's part of the process.

Hello Judy,

It's good to hear that you are doing well. I have been feeling pretty well except for gas pains but can't seem to get rid of the gas as fast as I would like to. The second day was the worst. When I would stand I would get nausea and then start to dry heave. That really hurt my side. Overall it has gone really well. I am surprised to hear you are going to work so soon. I am out till at least the 18th. My job requires lots of movement and lifting. I am pretty excited about this whole thing. I guess it's like any thing else you will get use to it eventually. I guess i do have to remember that it is surgery and you won't feel great immediatly. Keep in touch.

I was banded by Dr Smith this past Friday December 17 in Hurst, Texas. I was on a two week liquid diet I did Protein Shakes for Breakfast and supper then Soup for lunch. I did ok with that diet lost about 6 pounds that made 20 pounds total since May 2010 when I started this journey. I had to follow my husband's insurance procedures. I am 2 days postop still having problems with gas pains, but they are better today. I'm still on Clear Liquids until tomorrow. My first postop visit is this Wednesday where everyone banded the same day will gather as a group. My first fill will be January 7 which is pretty quick to me it seems, but am looking forward to that visit also. All and all I'm glad I had the lap band surgery. I know several folks who have gotten the procedure done some have lost weight and some have not for whatever reason. I plan to follow the guidelines chewing, chewing, chewing, Protein first the veggies and drinking between meals! I want for the first time in my adult life to feel good about myself and have no fear walking into a clothing store and not having to settle for Tents or Tarps to wear! I'm looking forward to the "little" black dress I've never gotten to wear!

I too can hardly wait to purchase the little black dress. I will be banded by Dr Ferrera on March 7. I am so excited :D Have done a lot of research and took 2 years to get to this point. I am inspired by Dr Smith though as he has been through what we are all going through. Great staff. Cheers :D

Dr. Smith did my surgery May 6, 2010 in Albuquerque and I could not be happier with the care I have received. I have lost over 100 pounds and I am just about 10 pounds away from the goal weight he set for me before surgery and about 30 pounds away from what I consider my ultimate goal weight. Doctors and staff in Albuquerque are all great :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
