Where is your port located

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am going to be banded on May 6th Yay!!! Anyway I went to a pre-op class and was surprised to find out that my port is going to be located just under my breast bone. I have done a lot of research on the band and had always heard that the port is placed closer to the waist line. I asked about this and they said the reason they have started putting it there is because it makes finding the port much easier.

I was wondering if there are others on here with their ports placed there and how it is working for them. I just read a thread under post op thread where they have had problems with jeans effecting their port area and I am now wondering about my bra irrating my port area. I would love to hear from others who have their port placed there and how it is working for them.

I don't have a port yet, but that's exactly where mine will be located. According to the doc, it makes sleeping a lot easier - especially if you are a side sleeper. I asked specifically about the bra, and he said he's never had any complaints due to bra on port.

I'm glad my doc is not the only one! Like you, I was getting concerned.

My port is located just under my breast bone. I would have preferred it a little lower as I have a good amount of "fat" in that spot. I do find it uncomfortable at times when I am wearing an underwire. I would ask that they put it down about an inch or two lower.

It's fine, I'm not really complaining, but if I had a choice I would prefer it a little lower, but I don't know what to compare it to.

Mine is located right under my left breast bone. It's a low profile port and I wouldn't have it anywhere else. My bra doesn't bother it and while you can easily feel it if you press there, it's not visible to the naked eye yet. It only bothers me during certain exercises that really pull at my muscles but I think it's like that for most people.

Mine is located in just under the breastbone a little right of center. I can't speak to the bra issue :) but if your getting a Realize band the ports are much lower profile than the LapBand. If you are getting a LapBand, you might want to ask the surgeon to use the low profile port instead of the standard one. Good luck and congratulations on your decision.

I had my surgery consult last week and the surgeon said that it would be placed below my breast bone because it was easier to get to for the fills.

Well I'm glad to hear that there are others out there who have had it placed there. I had never heard about that placement before.

I have the Realize Band. I don't know if that makes a difference but from the other replies I guess it does. Mine is right below my breast bone and I don't have any problems with it. Every once in a while if I'm laying on my stomach in an awkward way I can feel it or when I'm working out and doing crunches. Fills are super easy for me. =]

My port is about an inch to the right of my belly button, it's a low profile port and from what I understand it's the lowest they can put it. I asked my surgeon to give me a low profile port b/c when you lose your weight it has less chance of sticking out. It doesn't bother me when I wear a tight waist band, and I haven't had any issues with finding it to get filled either. My surgeon said he puts the port whenever he can, but it depends on how much belly fat a person has.

My port started right above my belly button and slightly to the right. Since I have lost the weight its about 2 " under and to the right of my belly button lol. It's weird but doc said it's fine.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
