How do you get rid of BELLY FAT?!?!?! HELP!!!

Recommended Posts

Well, it's been awhile since I have been on here but I really need some help or advice from some of you that have already been through this. I was banded in August of 2008. I have lost about 60 pounds, not as much as I would like to have lost BUT I am 60 pounds:Dancing_wub: better off than I was this time a year ago. I have lost weight in the past ( 100 pounds) and when I lost it it seemed to come off equally all over my body BUT this time my belly fat is hanging on for dear life! I walk and do crunches and lift some light weights, what can I do that will help BURN OFF this BELLY FAT? My belly is making me crazy!!!!!

You might check out www.sparkpeople.com

You can find exercises for the abdomin. They have video demos of the exercises that will help in demostration. You can keep track of what you do there also. It is free.

I have the same problem! I asked several trainers at the gym. I am told only aerobics burn fat while the exercise will tone the muscle which will make the area look smaller and help the body burn faster. Diet and aerobics will burn it. I keep hoping they are wrong

When I gained my weight back this time, it all went to my belly, so I totally understand. I have been told the only way to get rid of it, is to do more cardio to burn the fat.

In some cases, it may still be swelling from surgery. The first year you will still have some swelling. I can tell, depending on what I've done during the day, my stomach will actually stick out more than it had in the AM or even the day before. You need to remember that everything that had to do with surgery took place right there. The port is located right below the skin, after fills (or unfills in my case Monday) I'll be swollen for almost a week. I get bruised too and the port area will even bump out a little. The band/stomach is all right there at the front of the abdomen. Ok, under all the muscle and other tissue but it all still presents to the front.

I think if you're under a year out from surgery, and you're noticing that you seem to be presenting all on the front, then you can safely say, it's probably swelling. As long as you're exercising and losing weight, I think it'll eventually take care of itself. I'm sure hoping anyway! LOL!

Best wishes!!

Unfortunately, we can't choose where our fat loss comes from. Think of your fat stores like an odd shaped ice cube that's melting. The thicker the area of ice - the longer it will take to melt. No spot training will influence the fat loss. You can, however, exercise specific muscle groups to give areas a better appearance.

I think the best overall fat burning exercise is a variety of cardio. Light, Moderate, and Intense. Always change it up, but do the better part of an hour at least once per day - most days of the week. Throw in a couple of strength training workouts thoughout the week and you have a good recipe for burning the fat off while keep the muscles toned and efficient.

Good luck!

Brad

Fat is fat is fat and the only way to burn it off is with cardio and calorie reduction (in whatever form appeals to you, high carb low fat, low carb etc). Lift weights and preserve your lean muscle too, that helps burn fat as well and if you do it in the form of high intensity weight training or circuit training and the like you'll get cardio/fat burning benefits from the actual exercise too.

But no amount of crunches or abdominal work will directly shift fat from your belly. You get six pack abs the same way you get visible biceps or quads, by losing the fat that's hiding them.

Unfortunately though, where your body stores fat is genetically and hormonally determined. I'm lucky to have a flat stomach but there's no help for my backside. I will always have a saggy rear end, its where I store fat and my skin is loose and yuck there. To lose the fat I store there the rest of my body would look like I just came out of a concentration camp. To some degree, plastic surgery is your only option once you've exhausted reasonable fat loss.

I haven't gotten rid of mine but a friend introduced me to a girdle (they call it a body reshaper) that has changed my life. It is the Ardyss body magic. This is not a sales pitch. Their slogan is "drop 3 sizes without diet, exercise or surgery". Guess what, it works! It also helped me to limit the amount of food that I was eating. Is it tight? I prefer to call it "form fitting". It has great back support and I love it. I was planning to go to Brazil for a Tummy Tuck and a 'butt lift' but I got scared at the last minute. They have a garment that lifts your butt also. Check out these websites: www.ardyss.com or www.ardysslife.com-en-ID=gacquaye. They also say an appointment with ARDYSS can change your life. I changed mine! I feel like I am twenty again.

Let me hear from you if you are interested. I live in Nebraska

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
