banded on the 26th, wanna cry

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, my first post. i was banded on the 26th, was told it was "textbook" discharged on the 27th, came home, started running temp of 101. Back to hospital overnite, had antibiotics. home today, but, still do not feel good. I have so much gas!!! i am walking around, sipping fluids slowly, but still have awful painful gas. Also, loose stools, probably from the meds. I really want to cry and cry. I am so scared I did the wrong thing!!! Did anyone else feel this way at first????

Hey there...things will start to get better, not to worry. I didn't get the fever, but I was in a lot of pain. I turned the corner at 4 days. It seems each person has a different experience, some people are fine in a day or two, others have a lot more pain. We each have different circumstances. Have you tried GasX? A lot of people on here swear by it. Also, don't abuse, but definitely use the pain meds if you need them. Good luck to you!

I felt exactly the same way, sore, gasey and a general feeling of not feeling good and it seemed to change for me at about a week. Once I was on full liquids I started to feel better and better and I got up and moved around more and now I am at 2 weeks out and I feel great, almost back to normal. Hang in there, it will get better!

I also had some complications afterwards. And I too thought: What in the world have I done??

I'm not going to lie - I cried and cried and kept thinking this is the STUPIDEST thing I have EVER done!!

But guess what....it gets better. Just hang in there. I no longer regret it and I feel GREAT!

Take Care,

Malissa

I had gas steady for a month before it went away, but no I didnt think I had done the wrong thing. I knew it would eventually work its way out of my system.

I get the gas back when I drink Protein shakes even now. I have them today. I had a fill yesterday and had to go on liquids yesterday. I took 2 things for gas today, its up in my chest.... still.

Post-op is a really confusing, emotional time, huh? I felt great attached to a dilaudid pump in the hospital, but the second they released me from my IV and sent me on my way, I was in a ton of pain. While it does get a bit better each day, I am 11 days out and certainly not pain free. I still can't sit up for extended periods of time, I'm fatigued, I have a pain on my lower side that hurts when I breathe deep or walk around, and I still have a faucet rear-end.

Needless to say, you're not alone, and you're still early in the recovery process! Whether it's weight loss or recovery time, we tend to compare ourselves to others; I always read about people who went back to work in two to three days or use phrases like "feel great," and I find myself angry and wondering why my situation is so different. But at the end of the day, we all heal at very different rates and it certainly doesn't mean something is wrong (even though it's really easy to go there mentally).

Slowly but surely...we'll get there. Good luck with everything!

PhaZyme works better and faster than gas x for most people.

Hi there. I was banded on the 26th also. I was able to go home on the 27th too. So far no fever but I am dealing with a hell of a lot of gas pain. I thought I was fine but tonight I'm hurting a lot. So you're not alone in this. We just have to stick it out until our body recovers. We put it through a lot.

Hang in there!!!

Maybe a reaction to the anesthetic, some people react like this, Gas is one usual problem, Normally peppermint cordial is good for the Stomache or peppermint Tea... Wind is Normal until the Gut sttles after the Operation, any worries ring your GP... sorry not sure where ur from USA or UK ? also keep moving inbetween rests...

I got the chewable Gas-X and it was AMAZING, and something to chew on :) It seriously worked well for me. I think all of us have been there, thinking "WHAT DID WE DO" but now that I'm over a month out, I feel like it was totally worth it. Just keep taking it a day at a time and it will get so much better.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
