Well, I've been banded since November 2006 and initially lost 80 lbs. I've since gained 40 lbs back and am pretty much fed up with the band. I'm starting on phentermine tomorrow to get to my goal weight. I've heard lots of good things about it and it's better than getting back to the weight I started at. Anyone ever take phentermine?

I took it for 6 months and maybe lost 4 pounds!!! I only kept taking it because it gave me a bit of energy due to the amphetemine effect. Even if it works for you for appetite control, if you take it all the time, your body adjusts and it quits working after a couple months. Good luck with it anyway!!

Well I've lost 4 lbs in 3 days. I think it works pretty good. I've known several people who it continues to work for atleast a year. It just depends on the person. It works different for everyone.

My band doc gave this to me for 1 month post-op, to tide me over till my first fill. He said he wouldn't prescribe more because I needed to work with the band (ok).

I didn't notice a difference honestly for me. I have a diet pill I've used on & off through the years, and I miss it right now (being pregnant). It's probably the equivelant of legal speed, but it keeps me energized and not thinking about food.. paired with a well restricted band, I was doing fabulous.. then the slight unfill, and loss of pills, well this has been a fattening pregnancy!!!

I used the yellow jackets w/ephedra, which worked a lot better for me than the phen.. Although I don't know that Phen wouldn't work fine if you weren't use to something else..like you said, you've lost some weight with it already!

Hey FairyFacade,

Thanks for the info. Where is a reputable place to buy the yellow jackets with ephedra? There are many places online but you never can tell what you're getting. I've used Adipex (the brand name for Phentermine) off and on. Have had great results. The effects wear off pretty soon though. But it still helps me control my appetite easily. The worst side effect I've had over the years is dehydration. Requires LOTS of Water, which is good for you anyway! Hope the info helps.

i tried phentermine about 5 years ago, i did lose quite a bit of weight with it but gained it back fairly quick after stopping. if it works for you it should give a pretty nice jumpstart to get back on track

Yeah I wouldn't recommend staying on any of them for a long period of time, like I said I did mine off & on. Anytime I stalled or needed the boost, I would take the yellow jackets.

I have a big bottle left over, I just google them (and make sure to say with ephedra). Then, make sure you read the listing, some of them pop up as with ephedra, but if you read the listing it does not have ephedra.

Again, it may be what you're use to, but the non-ephedra ones were like a placebo, they did absolutely nothing for my appetite or energy. But someone out there has to like them, otherwise they wouldn't be in the stores would they? :/

Hey Fairy,

There are a number of websites for yellow jackets with ephedra. Who have you used in the past?

Hi - I tried but my doc would not keep me on it long (like 2 week supply) HELLOOOO I can't loose 100+ in 2weeks! I did make the hunger go away and I had more energy. Like a little high.

Phentermine cures my head hunger which the band does not. I am back on Phentermine after i hit a plateu. It gives me energy and i feel like barely eating. It also gives me so much energy i feel like i can work out forever. I can do the stairmaster while on phentermine for 30 minutes and do elipitical 30 minutes plus weights. This is good for me because i am losing weight by being able to push myself in my works outs. I feel like i am on a rush on it and can keep going and going like an energizer bunny! After i hit my goal weight of 150, maybe i will come of it, but in the meantime, combined with the band is the duo i need. I have lost 61lbs since banding on 4/23/2009. 120 lbs in total from my highest weight of 308! 36 lbs to go to goal weight ! YOU GOTTA DO WHAT YOU GOTTA DO!

I've been back on Adipex since around April this year. Lost another 15lbs or so. Got me off the plateau I had hit and gave me lots more energy! I highly recommend it to get back motivated and jumpstart the weight loss. They are EXPENSIVE though ....

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
