I'm having trouble eating too. Just no desire. I'm still in alot of pain. I can hardly walk. The weight of my stomach is pulling at the port incision. Also when does the shoulder pain go away. Other than that - I'm wonderful

Glad to hear everyone is well amd that you were able to be banded JersyGirl. I've had very little gas pain so far but my belly is a bit sore even though I have this on Q thing. My belly looks like a warner borthers cartoon I have bandaids every where 9 incisions I recouted after my first post. Glad to be home and not much hunger either I've had a fudgecicle and almost a glass of Water. I guess I've got restriction already due to having a small band so as I understand I'm on Clear Liquids for 2 weeks. I'll double check next week when the nutritinoist calls. I was suppose to have home health care to help me with shots but all in my area are booked according to the hospital. All in all doing well so far.

JayTee, congrats on already losing 38lbs! How'd you do it?

So I'm hungry tonight :cool2: That must be a good sign. Still lots of gas, but I can tell the difference between hunger and pain.

I lost a lot of weight dong the 50 Million Pound Challenge meal plan then started cutting carbs a few weeks before my surgery then went to 2 protien shakes and one meal a day starting the Sunday before my surgery and then finally 2 days before my surgery I was on clear liquids for 2 days befor my surgery. All was good thne this evening I stepped on the scale and was up I guess rom the air and fluids over the past 2 days.

I mostly had ice chips at the hospital got Water about 30 minutes before the Dr. released me. Had a glass of water, 1/2 cup of chicken broth and some white grape juice since I've been home.

Congrats on having surgery and keep on with the great recovery! I can only hope that I will lose the desire to eat, because I'll eat even when I'm NOT hungry!

It will help by the fact that it stops you from being hungry. However if you are a habit eater or an emotional eater you will STILL EAT! So you need to find a way to process the emotions that make you want to eat and find something to occupy your time instead of eating. There must be suggestions on here for that sort of thing - I will have a nosey.

I have actually gained a pound but I think it's just Water?

The Doc said to me there is a lot of Fluid and stuff in there from the operation.

My belly looks like a warner borthers cartoon I have bandaids every where 9 incisions I recouted after my first post. .

Jaytee, why NINE? :cool2:

I think I'm being tortured.....LOL

I don't quite know the only response I got was some times they go in at the wrong spot and have to go to a different area. No one on the hospital staff seemed to think that was unusual in recovery they told me I had 9 sites like it was nothing and up on the floor they said 8 like it was just normal. When I got home I recounted and there are 9.

I am quite depressed because I don't think I have lost any weight. I feel quite bloated and my clothes still feel the same. I am eating according to the nutritionists instructions. I guess I will have to wait until my first post-op exam on 20 April.

Is there anyone else who doesn't feel like they have lost anything yet? My stomach is still swollen.

Four days post op and I believe I am doing good. Every day I feel a bit better. Glad I'm off work until Wednesday. I have 5 incision sites. Three small and two that are about 2 1/2 inches long. My surgeon said all looked well inside though. I'm having some problems eating. I'm on a full liquid diet. I can have anything that I could drink through a straw. So I've been having creamy Soups mostly. After a couple bites, I feel really tight in my chest. I'm guessing it's from the gas. Not really painful, just uncomfortable. I have the 11 cc new Realize Band and as far as I know, nothing in there for 6 weeks. And I also get uncomfortable when I drink very much. I'm sipping and eating slowly but still uncomfortable. How are you postopers doing? What are you eating/drinking and how are you feeling afterwards? Much gas problems? Happy Easter!!!

Hi everyone,

Updated list is available HERE.

Lisa (NYLady) is now on her 4th day post-op. During the day she is doing quite well but at night (usually between 2am and 4am) she wakes with bad pain (just above her diaphragm and in the left shoulder) and feels nauseous with it (watery eyes, salivating, sometimes dry retching). She feels hot and clammy but has chills all the same time. She doesn't have a fever though. It feels like there's a big bubble of trapped gas that she can't expel. She also feels she has a very acidic stomach (though she's not experiencing any reflux or burning).

If anyone has some advice on how to get rid of a gas bubble quickly (she has used simethicone, has tried walking around for a while) or has experienced something similar, I'd be very grateful to hear from you.

Ciao for now

Lili

Hi

Well I was banded on April 1st and am suppose to be on puree food now, but I got fed up and started eating real food yesterday. I ate very little, still no appetite and I chewed until it fell apart in my mouth. It was fine, no pain, no odd feelings, nothing. I was most pleased. Since that horrible gas pain in the shoulder disappeared, the rest has been great. I had potatoes, brocolli, cauliflower, carrots and ham. Not bad eh? I measured the quantity too - less than 1 cup and I couldn't finish it - how exciting is that! I am loving this band big time.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
