Bunny Bandsters - April '09, MASTER THREAD #1

Recommended Posts

Hi Elayne, I also had the sleep study & was given the cpap. I don't like it, but evidentally it will help with memory, crankiness and weight loss (& not dying in our sleep). After we lose more weight, we may never have to use them again. Yay! Best Wishes, GB

So I decided that they all thought I was having a boob job and thought I'd wear a pair of oranges in my bra my first day back and see what their reaction was - what do you think?

Mommad, I love your idea. I've only told a few people at work what I'm doing, and I'm sure the rest will be wondering, so I figured when they start asking why I'm going to be out, I'm just going to tell them I'm having a sex-change operation, or something equally outrageous. :tt2:

WEll, it's done. Went into OR around 8 back in recovery 9:20-well that's when I was awake enough to ask the time. All went well. Got to my room around 12. I was surprised that my doc said nothing eat or drink until barium swallow the next day. Yes, I was bad. Told hubby to wet wash cloth so I could suck on it. My mouth was so dry my lips were sticking to my gums. Oh and yeah the recovery nurse let me have and ice chip or 2--but dont' tell the doc. I know should listen to doc but--that's me. So, later on in the room the nurse let me swish Water and spit. Felt so good. I did have a water bottle in my bag since I'm use to well water and our city water-not so good. Yep, you guessed it I stole itty bitty sips.

Pain level is okay. Lower back hurt from how I slept last nigh. God I miss the hospital bed.

Dear lingling, i don't know why 3 hr unless it includes post op. Only having 1 surgery. I have been a c-pap user for 1 year, i love it, i sleep better, and have more energy. I didn't want to be one of those people who die in their sleep. My husband also uses one so our bedroom is very quiet, just the sound of our machines.my husband's sleep apnea is connected with his seizure disorder. 2 weeks til my surgery, no preop diet ordered for me but i have already lost 23lbs. Prayers for all up coming surgeries. You have made a good choice. Love mimi

Well I came home today. The drugs have basically kicked my butt and the thought of food repulses me. I'm sore, but not too much gas pain. I have tried to get up and get walking. I hope this nausea feeling goes away soon. It's pretty nasty!

Good Morning, Hopeful, I Was just catching up on some reading in here and came across your message. I had my surgery Monday and when I cked. into the hosp. they started giving me stuff in my i.v. to prevent a sick stomach, but I just wanted to let you know it does get better so hang in there!! Everyone of you guys are such an inspiration to me!! Keep up the good work!! I don't think I could have done this on my own!! Thank you so much for what you do!!

I emailed the nurse and asked if the doctor wanted me on pre-op diet since most of you on this forum have one. He had mentioned loosing 5-8 lbs before surgery which I posted a few days ago. The nurse emailed back that she emailed instructions in an earlier email with a bunch of attachments so I went back and found it. Just a warning to be sure and ask because if I had not of asked they might have canceled my surgery with no preop diet done! Close Call!

Hi Y'all!!

Okay so I had my pre-op (or as the nurse called it Pre-Admit) on Tuesday the 7th. Got all my test done!! Everything looked good! The Doc said I need to lose 5 pounds before surgery...made me all scared that if I didn't and my liver was too big they would have to close me up and do it again when I did....AT MY COST! But they aren't requiring any liquid diet before sugery...just a "sugar buster's diet" And I can't lose 5 pounds in a week on that!!!! Grrr...so I am determinded....drinking 100 ounces of Water a day and taking Protein Drinks for Breakfast, eating sugar free Jello for lunch, Protein Bars for a snack...and grilled chicken and broccolli at dinner... I was 297 on tuesday and am now 294 today!!! Yeah!! working on those 5 pounds!! Which I am sure it is all water weight!

That evening of my pre-op I went to my first support group meeting they invited me to since I am now "good to go" with surgery. It was so inspirational!!! We talked about working out and protein!! Got to get those firm bodies!!! To see these women and men before and after and have them physically standing there...was a pow right in the face!!! I CAN DO THIS! They have clothing exchanges...they are going to have a Fashion show in a month! And I'm going to be ready!!! And the doc was there that night to...the fashion show was his idea!!! hahaha! which is really cool cause he had lap-band done as well...and is doing great!!! He better be in the fashion show to!!

Any way..just wanted to check in on my bunnies!!! Hope all those that had surgery is recovering well...and getting great support! HUGS! And those of us that are fast approaching that S day! Good luck to us! and many prayers!!

Hugs!

Sylvia

Hello all,

I was banded this past Tuesday and feel fairly good. I have been walking and sipping, I start with milk and smooth Soups in the a.m. hoping I don't encounter any problems.

How long was it before most of you returned to your regular activities?

I was banded April 1st. No fill yet... I go for my xray and swallow test tomorrow. Should I be able to eat a whole yogurt? I guess just am having so many bodily functions I can't tell them apart (Abdomen pain/soreness, gas from surgery, hunger/stomach gurgling, burping, fullness?). I guess I am trying to ask what does full feels like? I was told when they put the band in it has a partial fill already so I am assuming I have some restriction. I am on full liquid still and I cannot tell when I am full. Should I even be thinking about fullness being a liquid diet anyways??? I guess I'll get to test it out as soon as I switch to the soft foods/blenderized phase. But does anyone have any input?

Murphy here,

I had the surgery today.Operation started at 8:05 and Doctor was finished at 8:45. My oxygen levels wouldn'r stay above 88 so I had to stay a little longer. The nurse gave me ice to chew and I thought the ice ws better than the best Steak anywhere:=). I have no gas and only a littles houlder pain. if I get up and move around it goes away. Will I get the gas later on? What liquids are safe.i tried some V8 Splash but vomited it back up.Would broth be okay?

I was home today by 2:30.The only sorenesI have is right where the incisions are.

Thanks in advance for your responses. Murph

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
