Realize vs. Lapband

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I apologize if this has been asked before. I did a search and couldn't really find any answers. The dr. I am currently looking to use for surgery offers both bands and says the choice is really up to me on which one to use. I liked the look of the lap band better than the realize band, but I like the support website of the realize and I read it is safer and the shape is better which causes less slippage etc. but I have no idea. Can anyone give me any insight on one vs. the other? TIA!

Hi, I too before the surgery was given a choice to pick a band between realize vs. lap band. I also did a lot of research but still could not make a decision on my surgery day. I told the doc that I would leave the decision into his hands. He should pick one that best fits my anatomy. The doctor finally put in a realize band for me.

Thank you for the response. Are you happy with the decision? I see you just had the surgery done, how has it been so far? I am hoping to be scheduled for a late April/ early May surgery date.

Slips are on the rise with ALL bands. Fewer slips with the new band are a theory, not a fact. A couple of people have posted in the last 2-3 days that they slipped with the new band and they are having them removed.

Don't choose a device you have to live with by a website, choose the one that is right for you.

I've only been with the band for a week. It's too early to tell if I'm happy with it or not. After the surgery, I've had a lots of gas pain. Nonetheless, almost everyone after the surgery had some gas pain. Today I felt my hunger for real food had kicked back in. I was hoping it would not come back for a while since I still have to stay on liquid diet next week.

I chose the realize band, the choice was mine, I even asked the doctor which one he would put in and he told me that he has two kids and would place one of each. I did my own research and saw the band in person and I chose them for my personal reasons I won't share them (becasue your still in the deciding stage) and because people tend to go on other's experiences I say this becasue I do the same thing...everyone is different I see that a person above me lost almost double that I have and we have the same band. they say that the realize band people tend to lose slower, and it takes longer to get to the restriction level at first this is true and I was very down about it but you know what I wouldnt't have it any other way I am still a LOSER (a good one) and that is what counts! Good luck in making your decision!!!!!

I chose realize because supposedly the port is less likely to flip... or so they claim. I could live without the site, I prefer sparkpeople.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
