I had my band for almost a year now and I recently started to lose my hair. I don't how much is falling out from the scalp but I have A LOT of breakage! What does this mean? I knew it was normal for it to fall out but what about breaking? I also over the past month or so experienced dandruff so I switched to Head & Shoulders. Do you think this kind of Shampoo could be damaging my hair? The dandruff has gotten better but now my hair is breaking. I bought some biotein awhile back just because I heard it was good but I really wasn't using it but I am now going to start. Does anyone have any good advice? What can I do to save my hair??????????????

P.S. I haven't had anything done to my hair in months as far as color and chemicals either.

Having same issue -- I am 8 months out.

Generally this stuff happens from Vitamin, Water, and or Protein deficiency.

Tea tree oil did not work for me. Using head and shoulders and keep hair trimmed seems to be the option for me.

But I have got to get back to taking my vitamins!

I have a lot of hair and it is long so..so far I am the only one who notices.

Do you have a stylist or beautician you trust? If so, check with him or her. I don't think head and shoulders is really good for your hair...and it sounds to me (in my very limited experience) like you may be too dry (because of the breakage). Usually dandruff is caused by too MUCH oil. If you don't have enough and are using that you can just be making things worse.

Dry brittle hair will break easily; you may not be getting enough fat/oil in your diet. If you are taking a good Vitamin and drinking your Water and getting your Protein in, then I'd look at fat. You know we need SOME fat for health and cellular function. If you don't want to add olive or canola (or some such) oil back into your diet, maybe try an Omega complex pill? It will take it a while to work though. In the interim a good stylist should be able to help you minimize the damage.

I am not sure if this help, but my Doctor says that when you reach a certain amount of weight loss,

(100lbc +or -), you will loose a certain amount of hair. She says it will come back.

I am not sure how much you have lost. But this is something to think about.

RestlessMonkey is right on the money with the nutrition making a difference on your hair.

Not knowing what you were using b4 Head and Shoulders and without seeing and feeling your hair makes it harder to give the best advice as to what to use. First, you say you have "dandruff". Well, most people think that white flakes are dandruff cuz the commercials steer you that way. Well it's not. True dandruff is big, yellowy, chunks and it smells. Little white flake is dry scalp, which is mostlikely what you have. What you need is a good Professional moisturizing Shampoo AND conditioner. If you can 'hear' your hair scratchin together and can pretty much snap off the ends then you have too much Protein (not to be confused w Protein in your diet). Therefore, you would need to add a little shampoo w protein--but too much will be revert back to braking off so you have to be very carefull. If your hair feels very conditioned then all of a sudden breaks off again--then youve over done it and need to back off and use moisture and oil more.

Your hair is made up of moisture, protein and essential fatty acids (oil-which gives you elasticity). You need all to have heathly hair--so not just one kind of shampoo and conditioner. Just like we need protein, carbs, fat, and Water in our diet.

On the chance that you were using a professional product you need to get one the other ellements to balance it out and alternate days.

Don't forget the importance of 'clarifying' (stripping) your hair every few weeks every type of product will build up on your hair, but store bought products contain ALOT of wax as fillers so its not as pure of the ellements that you want.

I do not think your hair falling out it cuz of the band, but might very well be your nutrition. Your blood supply makes your hair grow. So in a sence what you eat ends up on your hair.

I know this is a lot. Let me know if you have any questions. Hope this helps all.

I do think some of my issue is nutrition. I was too tight for a period of time and I'm sure I was not getting enough of a lot of things I needed, however would this make my hair break or just fall out?

Spud Mama: I think you are right about the dandruff thing...what you described as dandruff is not what I had, but using the head and shoulders did reduce the flakes. I think that Shampoo is drying my hair out. Before I started using the dandruff shampoo I was using Ojon. Have you ever heard of it? One of the stylist from the salon I go to uses it as well. We laughed about not having normal "white girl" hair. We both have naturally curly dry hair by nature. This Ojon shampoo is oil based. I really liked how it made my hair look but then I started getting flakes so I stopped to address that. I guess I will call my stylist and see what she says. I also question what is in my Water. I heard hard Water can hurt your hair too. I'm so confused!

Hi! I'm having same trouble w/ Hair loss. I am almost 6 months out. My nutritionist told me to first look into my PROTEIN to make sure I'm getting enough. Plus you have to take a MULTI. Also my hair dresser told me about NIOXIN hair treatment system for thinning hair. I bought it for $20.00. It's shampoo/ conditioner/ & a scalp treatment spray. We'll see! HTH!

Another question is...will Vitamins and nutrition just help my hair grow or will it improve the condition of my hair or both?

I suggest getting a Vitamin for your Hair Skin and Nails. They do have them available in capsules that you can open and pour into something or you can crush up a regular Vitamin.< /strong>

I take those currently... it makes my hair thick and nails grow like weeds! :w00t:

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
