hello junies

I have not posted in forever i am down 60 pounds since June 16th but stuck here cant loose an ounce. My exercise has dropped way off and i think i try to "beat the band" occasionally. i just had my 3rd fill (6 cc in a 10cc band) feel tighter but need to concentrate on getting back on track and not what i can slide by my band. Anyone else have this kind of trouble? Seems like everyone posting has had great success. Maybe i just need a kick in the butt.....

Mimieg...trying to break acquired eating habits is really tough but you can do it. You had great success with your weight loss. Try not to compare yourself to a person that has lost more than you in that time period since surgery. We all lose at our own pace.

Till you get back to your post band eating habits it might be a good idea to not have "trigger" foods in the house. Get back to the "hard" Protein first and then fruit or veggies. Keep SF Jello, SF popsicles, SF Jello, etc. so you can grab something healthy. I love the 100 cal pkgs of Orville R. kettle corn. You feel like you are getting a real treat.

You CAN turn this around. Give yourself a new start and come back to the LB board for support!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey all!

I haven't posted in awhile because I really had NO news...I had my first fill in September (1 cc in a 12 or 14 cc band...my doctor doesn't even know which it is) and I had restriction for about a week, then right back to usual. I just got my second fill last week because until Feb 1, my insurance required a $250 copay to get fills (which is just out of my budget), but now I don't have to pay a copay at all. I'm now at 3 cc and it's been a little over a week. I have restriction but not as much as I know I need. For example, right now, a Healthy Choice meal is just enough to fill me up, and that's still more than I should eventually be able to eat.

I've been bouncing around between 414 and 417 since my first fill (and up to 422 around Christmas/New Year's), I was at 417 when I got my fill, and now I'm down to 411 in just a bit over a week, which I'm happy about. I'm hoping the restriction stays at this level until I can schedule my next fill and not go back down again.

Now that money isn't a problem, I'm going to jump on my fills and I'm hoping to get my weight loss numbers chugging up to the rest of you gals :) Down 33 so far.

Angel, so glad you are able to get those fills now. That will help tremendously. I don't think they make a 12cc band so it's probably the 14cc. If it's the LapBand brand they are 10cc or 14cc I believe. I have the 14cc. It took me lots of fills to get great restriction and now I am debating about getting another one in 2 weeks when I go in for my 9 mos post op visit. Good luck with the fills.

Hi all. I was banded June 16, 2008. I'm stuck at 36 lbs down. But my doc is conservative. I have 3.5 cc in a 14cc band. He's slow on fills so I see him on Feb 27th and am going to hit him up for another 1cc fill. I am too scared to ask for more thana that for fear of being over filled. But this slow weight loss is so discouraging. I try to be strong but then I feel weak because the scale won't move. Any advice????

Hey Diva,

Wow he is really conservative with your fills. My advice would be to be aggresive with your fills. I think you will see a big difference.

Good luck!

Diva,

I also have 14cc band. I have 5.5cc in mine and sooo need more. I go on monday to ask for some more. Im shooting for 7 this time. I have only also lost 40 lbs. slow compared to others, but for me i have to work out tons, and i have to cut my carb intake down to around 30g a day. Little more then say the Atkins induction phase, if i drop down to 20, my body dies and i end up sick. Just keep working it, you'll get their. I find when im the most discouraged, coming to the boards help me out. so keep checking in.

Diva and Army...sounds like you are both not quite at your sweet spot yet. My doc is very conservative with fills and only allows .5 at a time. Just don't get discouraged...you will know when you are there and be able to have better control. Hang in there and keep in touch.

Hey there June Bugs! I haven't been on here in so long, so a big hello to everyone. I've lost 75lbs since June and I'm about 10lbs away from goal. I just ordered my wedding gown on Saturday for my wedding in October! I just hope I don't lose too much that the dress will need major alterations! Oh, and it's a tight, mermaid style gown...absolutely gorgeous....and I never thought I'd wear this style, but I'm loving it!

As upbeat as I sound, I am having some other issues. I was wondering if anyone else is having self-image issues? I have good days and bad...ones where I look in the mirror and see my old fat self. And other days where I feel good. But the bad days are really bad, and I'm having a hard time dealing. Anyone else in the same boat?

Woohoo...congrats on the weight loss!!!!!!!!! Also, good luck on all of your wedding plans. Sounds like a beautiful dress. You will have to post some wedding photos when all is said and done.

As far as the body image issues. It takes awhile for the head to catch up with the body when it comes to weight loss. I am now at/below goal and I am now feeling fine with myself. Just an example: I would automatically head for the "large" woman's section of a dept store and then realize I did not have to shop there anymore. I would go to the "normal" section and feel like I didn't belong there. I actually imagined that people were staring at me and thinking that I didn't belong there. Just try to concentrate on getting rid of those feelings. When you look in the mirror, pick out your good physical qualities. I am 53 yrs old and decided at the beginning of this journey that I would accept my body once I got to goal. I have done that. I have accepted it and not obsessing over a little imperfection here or there. Not imperfect enough for plastic surgery (and don't want to go thru the pain of it all and the expense) so I have no other plan than to just accept me. I noticed that physical changes don't stop with weight loss. My body has changed even after I stopped losing. A little less flab...has tightened up some.

Be patient and accepting with yourself...it WILL all come together!

Wow! It is impressive to see how well some of you hve done. I did pretty good in the beginning... and I have kinda fallen off the band wagon. I think I probably need to get another fill. I have been going to call my surgeon, but I'm afraid of PBing all the time and will have to lead a life of liquid. I have some restriction now, but still able to get many things down. How do you know when you are at your sweet spot? And what are you able to consume when you are at this point? I currently have 4cc in my 10 cc band. I have to say, I have failed myself. The band has not failed me.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
