lesliewelsh: I'm also 58 and from Pennsylvania - what area are you from? There aren't many of us (age wise) on these boards although there is a special age forum. We are battling slowing metabolism, menopause and a whole host of other problems of the aging body. But willpower doesn't work. It's like holding your breath - you can only do it so long.

To Cleo's Mom: I am from Evans City, PA. Where in PA are you from? I had my banding Dec. 1 ay Allegheny General Hospital. I am a little frustrated with my progress. I can't wait until my next fill. I'm waiting for that much-desired full feeling. I am still able to eat more than I should. It's just by sheer will-power that I have lost weight at all. Take care.

At first I only told family, but as the weight loss became obvious I told a few friends and boy I wish I hadn't cause now I'm under the microscope. I even had a couple of friends get offended that I hadn't told them earlier. I wish I'd only told my husband and left it at that. The other day I went into my mom's Sunday school class before it started to tell her something, she was eating a doughnut and I said oh yum, where did you get that? She reacted with this huge shock and loudly said 'You can't have doughnuts!' which of course caused all the other old ladies around her to turn and look at me and made me feel like I was a 10 year old. *sigh* I wish I'd kept it a secret, anybody have a time machine?

I do lose better when I eat low carb. But that is just me. I know not everyone loses the same. As far as not eating carbs at all, that's not going to happen!

What I don't get is this preconceived notion that whoever has the band "throws up after every meal". Do you know how many people think that?

Where in the heck did they get THAT idea?! That's CRAZY!!

<sigh> I hate people.

Until I started reading this board, I had no idea how many people "PB" and get food stuck. They could be thinking of that.

Part of the weight loss process is also feeling better about yourself. I don't care if it's your mother or your co-worker, tell them you can watch your own diet thank you very much.

OMG, I sooo feel all of you in this forum. My DH does the same thing. He is trying to be helpful and I know he is but it is ANNOYING. We were at Breakfast yesterday and I ordered 1 egg and a small slice of ham and I didn't even eat HALF of it and he was like "Why are you forcing it, you know you shouldn't eat that" I got so mad. I'm still an adult and I know that ham isn't the best of Protein choices which is why I spent an hour and a half in the gym yesterday and lost .5 pounds for the day by compensating with healthier choices during lunch and dinner. SOOO annoying UGH!! To play Devil's Advocate though, I have talked to him about me being scared to fail and I know he is only looking out for me, it's just the WAY people say things.

My husband would have gotten mad if that's all I ordered. Then he would have gotten mad if I didn't eat it all.

I'd like to have a long talk with your husband.

It won't be pretty.

This is exactly why I am not telling anyone but my husband and my two best friends. They won't say anything about what I eat. My husband is just worried about how I'm feeling not what I'm eating. But I know most of my friends and family would be watching every bite I put in my mouth. These posts have really helped me feel better about not tellling!

I sure would like to join in on that talk with her husband... but.... I might need bail money if I did. I told all of my family and friends. They are so very supportive and don't question me or watch me - they know I know what I am doing and know that they have vices of their own. They also know I look forward to their words of encouragement and don't really want to hear anything negative - so they keep that to themselves. Guess I'm lucky!! Good luck to you all!!! Becky

For me it is my DH. It is not my choices in food that I hear about from him, but that I need to take small bites and chew it up. I get tired of hearing it, but I do know he doesn't want me to get stuck. I did the other day and I had my first PB and it grossed and freaked him out. He worries more than I do about me getting stuck.

Ugh. My mom had bypass and now that I have a band she micromanages my eating habits. I keep trying to tell her that I know how big of a bite I can manage, and it's not necessarily the same as what she can manage. EVERYTIME I eat around her she's like "chew it up good now! don't forget to chew it all up!" What am I? 2 years old? She also doesn't understand that I don't get dumping syndrome so yes, I can eat that stupid little cookie and not worry about it. She also freaks out because I'm of the belief that I will not deprive myself of something that I want and I will not tell myself I can never have something again. She also doesn't understand that because I have no fill yet I'm still restricted, but probably not as much as I should be so I can eat a little more than she can with bypass. But, you can't tell her any of that because she had bypass and is the absolute authority on WLS! So annoying!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
