Octuplets and SIX other children??!!!

Recommended Posts

You know Lulu, I am not a big fan of the government stepping in, but I have to agree with you; some regulation is needed, because something went terribly wrong and our society will pay the price if she receives government benefits to support all her children. It just is not right.

oh me too - can't stand big brother/gov't in my business; but this transcends medical ethics in MO the more i hear.

prayers for the kids - is really all the more i can say.

Since she worked at the fertility clinic, maybe she got it all for free?

i would guess - yes & are they her embryos & was the clinic just "testing"...use her as a guinea pig for some odd experiment.

these clinics rely on strict screening & guidelines - i'm STILL baffled at how it all took place. DH and i had 2 embryos left when i said i was done - we had to have an attorney to sign them over for donation (would have preferred to donate to science but it wasn't an option - nor was destroying them).

this story is ALL too crazy the more that gets peeled back.

I don't know this to be fact, but I read that she got started with IVF being an egg donor. She was paid to be hyper-stimulated, and agreed to split the eggs that resulted with a recipient who paid for both of their medical care. She produced eggs she was paid for and eggs that she had fertilized with donor sperm, all during one or two sessions. One by one, or two by two, she had them implanted. Then, she had all that were left implanted.

There is an investigation as to whether the clinic knew what was going on or not.

This is as plausible explanation as any I've read.

Wow! If she allegedly did this on her own, then this woman is very ill.

I'm so hit and miss with the news these days so sorry if this has been covered but...

Does anyone KNOW how many embryos were actually implanted? If it was 8 (or more) then there are some serious questions for the clinic. There IS a possibility, as I outlined in my earlier post, that several eggs could have split becoming twins.

I do know that the medical infertility community would consider this an IVF failure. Their aim is for as few babies as possible and as healthy as possible.

The possibility of her losing one or more is still there. These babies are little and unfortunately, a lot can still go wrong. For the sake of the kids, I hope not. But it is a possibility.

I can't even imagine how she could do this on her own. I mean, I had to go "under" while the dr. implanted, stay on my back for 24hrs, except for VERY quick potty breaks etc. I just can't imagine!

The whole thing just boggles my mind anyway.

I agree about her being VERY irresponsible.

i'm disturbed by the medical/fertility clinic if indeed she worked there & was implanted by. it cost well over 20k for DH and i to try IVF & someone who already had 6 kids decided she wanted "one more"??.....selfish. said it before, say it again - i hope the state steps in and not only looks into her situation - but HOW she got in this predicament in the first place.

I went to another couple's house tonight with ColoradoChick and her husband, and we were talking -- CC said somebody she knew had a preemie and it cost over $1 million for the hospital staff/work on just one baby. Now multiply that times eight. Supposedly there are no less than 42 staff working round the clock with these babies.

Who is paying for this?? Did she have insurance, or are we getting screwed YET AGAIN to take care of people and their offspring that have absolutely no business having kids???

Beth, I'm guessing she has some form of insurance b/c she birthed them at Kaiser. They don't take non-insured. She probably had insurance thru her job. I'm just guessing tho.

My nephew was born almost 3 months early, (yea, WAY early, we almost lost him a couple of times) and their bill after insurance and Children's Hospital forgiving a huge portion of it was still around $200,000!!! I think they're still paying them and nephew is 9 now! It's like having another mortgage!

From what I heard, and I could be wrong, they did implant all 8 because if they didn't implant them, some would have had to be destroyed and she didn't want that. And she didn't want to donate them.

Good point: After the Pampers dry up, then what? We all know damn well that California will be taking care of her forever. One income and 14 kids, one with autism? C'mon.

She is selfish, just simple as that. She should have donated them, because she cannot afford the 6 children she already has.

I hope her book deals cover the cost of raising those children, so we don't have to.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
