Octuplets and SIX other children??!!!

Recommended Posts

A coworker heard on the radio that she was upset that corporations weren't flocking to help her like they have others in the past, but I don't know it for a fact. Can't find anything that claims that from any news source.

My son was born 12 weeks premature, the 1st check of many was just for the bed, no doctors, no drugs. That check was $316,000. He was 2 lbs 13 oz and had a grade 3 brain bleed that resulted in his having cerebral palsy. I don't understand the need to have so many kids but I won't sit here and pass judgement on the woman. She has 14 kids and the whole world is coming down on her. I feel sorry for the kids they will require special attention, who's going to give it to them? What can be done to help the kids?

I read another story from the grandmother and she said they didn't implant all 8, that some split.

But still......she already had 6......That's plenty. Would the ACLU and my beloved libertarians be all over my ass for that statement? Yes. Do I still stand by it? Yes.

First prove that you can support 6 without any government assistance.

Grandma: Octuplets mom obsessed with having kids - Yahoo! News

According to this article, Mom was obsessed with having kids NOT raising them.

Sounds to me as though she has a mental issue, and the one good thing that might come of all the attention, is that it might actually get the children help. The first 7 might have slipped through the cracks otherwise.

I think the one common denominator among everyone here is that everyone feels for the kids, no one blames them! Discussing the outrageous nature of this story does not mean that we don't care about the innocent children and the possible issues they face in their future. Ironically the fact that there ARE 8 living children may be the one thing that saves them, by garnering the attention they have. Had she had another 2 or 3, heck even quads, they too would have probably been ignored, and she might have went on to have even more!

She definitely sounds like there is some sort of mental illness pushing her along. But then again, my Mom would not have sat back and said or done nothing when she was helping support me and my 6 kids, when I come home and said I was pregnant again and there were 7 more! They did not know about #8 I guess until delivery. My Mom would have had me commited, in all seriousness. She would have recognized it as a problem, not just ignored it!

I agree, even if they all split, she still shouldn't have even had 1 implanted. She had too many kids in the beginning. No one is flocking to her because everyone thinks it's crazy for what she did. The reason people flock to other couples who have multiple births is because they usually don't have other children and IVF is the only way they could have any children. They don't just do it because they are collecting babies. She needs to realize that. Someone should really talk to her about giving those babies up. She can't possibly take care of them and they are going to suffer because of her selfishness.

One of her existing children is autistic. From what I have heard these kids are very high maintenance. She is crazy and irresponsible as are the doctors who colluded in this litter production.

IF she is independently wealthy and able to take care of them all herself, I don't care what she does. However, if even ONE DIME of taxpayer money is going to this silly woman, then any one of us has the right to have our say. And considering that she lives with mom and dad AND had a bankruptcy less than two years ago, I would bet the farm that we're paying SOMEthing for these kids.

I agree. She can have as many kids and she can afford to support. I wanted to have 4 kids, but I could only afford to have two. I want a pony too, but I cannot afford the up-keep.

I have read conflicting stories about the bankruptcy. I heard she canceled it and paid the depts. Then I heard that it was her parents that filed not her. So I don't know. I think the whole family is wacked.

Yeah, I heard it was the parents and then they cancelled it.

What I read said that she had filed, wherein she lost her house, and that's why she's living with the folks. That makes more sense than the parents having filed.

There are several programs on TV about large families, the one where all the kids are named with names beginning with a J---the Jon & Kat Plus 8.....but thedifferences are big, make that HUGE!!!

In the family with 18 kids, if you watch them, it is much of the time the older kids taking care of the younger! It is not going to be so with a 7 year old being able to take care of 8 infants!

Then with the Jon & Kate crew, they are a couple, and even with the 2 of them, they have outside help! They openly admitted that the show allows them to clothe and feed their brood.

There have been others I have seen---my DD when she was pregnant (with one!) watched these things all the time!!! So when she was here, we watched it a lot! But in all of the others I have seen, the kids age range was much bigger, and provided a lot of help. With other multiples that made news like the McCaughey (sp???) septuplets, some of them still have medical issues, and when they are interviewed on TV, they will say how much of a struggle it has been.

In the cases of the big families without multiples, seem to be based on religious beliefs in having however many God blesses you with. Where I live there are many older Hispanic families with 12-18 kids. They were and many are still Catholics who did not believe in any form of birth control. But most of them are of my parents age, and the family paid its own way! No welfare! No TV programs or free food or diapers....

As for the families with multiples, all of the others that have been in the news did news conferences, and the Dr.'s were there, right along with the happy--all the while being overwhelmed--parents.

I remember the McCaughey Mom in her hospital gown at her first news conference.

Seems they are all of a more sound background, and were not ashamed of their choices. To hide, makes it seem as tho this Mom and family are. And that in and of itself is a shame.

Will be interesting to hear it play out as for the medical side of things. I know people who would give anything to be able to try IVF---but it is not in the budget....BUT neither would 8 kids at one time be!

Totally agree...if you can pay for it and take care of them adequately then go for it! That family with 16 can afford their large family with properties they lease. My folks were 'good Catholics' and had 5 of us...I'm not against large families, but as a good parent part of the equation is how many can we care for and afford.

LOL...pony/large dog! I wanted to be a princess, but I can't afford the castle or the upkeep...we'd all like to live out our childhood dreams...then we get real and live new ones.

probably sums it up best...

i "get" the want to be a mom, i come from a catholic / jewish upbringing & the only one w/out a child in my family and in my close group of girl friends.

someone in her life should have put the brakes onto her madness much MUCH sooner - my mom would have slapped the stupid right out of me if i was into "collecting kids".

that said, when dh and i decided "no more tries" - he bought me my horse (not pony)....i love that big guy!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
