My first day back to work

Recommended Posts

well, I made it. I went back to work today. My boss (the one I didn't want to tell about my surgery) wasn't there. I am grateful. To start the day off my alarm went off at 4:55 AM. It scared me and I reached over quickly turn it off, a not to disturb Harry's sleep. I proceeded to have a sharp pain in my port incision from the stretching. OUCH!!!!!

So, I slowly roll over and stand up right as best I can clutching my port incision. I feel my way to the bathroom in the dark. I push the scales out into the open so I can stand on them. WHOOOHOOOO! I am down to 288! I am 6 days post op and have lost 6 pounds. I proudly push the scale back between the toilet and the tub. I turn on the shower and slowly get in. I am washing my hair and hear a noise. i look outside the curtain to see nothing. I am pulling my head back in when soap gets in my eye and stings the ever loving hell out of it. I finish up and get out and towel off. I stand before the mirror and brush my teeth and hair (i do use two seperate brushes for this). I go to put on my deodorant and perfume and cause myself to sneeze. MOTHER F&$@$%!!! The pain in the port incision is getting worse.

I am a set my clothes out the night before kind of person. I walk over to my pile of clothes on the dresser and start the chore of dressing. I get my bra and panties on no problem, I take my socks to the bed and have to do some contorsion act to get them on. I am satisfied with that and put on my shirt and pants only to discover that the waistline hits my port incision and send sharp pain directly to my pee brain. HOLY S*$%!!! I am ok I am ok I am ok i keep reassuring myself. I then discover that I cant bend over enough to tie my shoes. After several commical attempts I give up and walk over to Harry's side of the bed and wake him up to ask him to tie them for me. He is a grumpy butt but laughs at me and ties them for me despite having been woken up to do a preschool child type chore at 5;F@$&ing 30 in the morning.

I get to my car and discover that I aslo cant sit with my pants buttoned. I see that my gas guage is reading empty. I speed off into the dawn as not to be late getting back to work.

I dealt with the stairs coming down from my apt pretty well. Going up the two flights of staris at work was a different story. It took me so long to get up there! I ended up sitting at my desk with my pants undone and my shirt barely covering me all day. I had a ton of well wishers and hey how did your surgery go-ers come up and visit with me~ all wanting to see my incisions. It wasnt until my co manager said "hey! nice pink panties, Tina" did I realize that my pants were still unzipped!! I had been showing them off all morning to all my co workers both male and female.

Tomorrow the big boss is there and I hope that no one asks about my surgery; as I would die if my boss were to accidently see my panties.

Poor thing, i sneezed for the first time today since my surgery and i exclaimed some expletives also! everything's fine except that port site...and a little gas i can't get rid of, but i think that's from the milk products i've been drinking. i can't see myself going back to work so soon, i guess cause i have to do so much lifting and standing at my job. i don't plan on going back for weeks.

i hear ya giving peep shows at work!

like everyone said that sounds like my days my kids have taken up helping me get dressed and boy does that port keep giving you a real reminder LOL haven't sneezed yet but boy I can't even imagine. I did a stupid twist to catch a falling glass of Water should have let it spill.. I think the worst was 2nd day post op dropping the remote and no one home LOL never knew i was that good with my toes. But I am glad everyone seems to have the same port pain because I was getting worried..

You will know the port is there for the next 2 or 3 weeks. It really does not hurt but you will know it's there. Mine hurt some for a week or so then just when you move a certain way or when you go over a bump when in the car. I kind of feel like it shakes it if that makes any sense.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
