Has anyone said something to you when you are feeling really good about yourself that smacks you right back down?

The other night I was at the casino.. I was feeling so freaking good about myself. I was wearing a new shirt I got size XL and my new size 14's with heels..

Sitting at the bar drinking an ALCOHOLIC beverage right.. that's the key word. Some WITCH sits down next to me and looks over at me. I ignore her and order another drink.... She even hears me order.

Out of the blue she said when is your baby due?? WTF

Hell now I feel like crap about myself (well atm I did) I try not to flip out on the witch. I look over and politely say. Oh I am sorry but I am not pregant.

WTF would first I am not sure whether im more offended that she thinks I look fat enough to be pregant or that I am supposeably pregnant and drinking alcohol?

Uggh some people are morons. I weigh 197 and have 2 well defined fat rolls haha... I could see if i had one big beer belly but I didn't.

I am over her.. I think. If DH wasn't with me I probably would of said alot more to her than just I am not pregnant......

God people shouldnt open their mouths cause stupid seems to fall out.

So to make myself feel better I posted in April Avengers strut your stuff haha

You have a story to tell?

I have a nasty woman who works in my department who when she heard I was having surgery again (for my port revision mind you) said

"oh are you having surgery again because it isn't working for you?"

I kid you not!!!

My weightloss is slow but I have lost 32 pounds since the beginning of June!

I started to explain that I was a have port revision due to pain but then I thought "screw it, the woman is an idiot this much I know" and walked away from her.

I dont carry weight well. I'v been asked numerous times by complete strangers when the baby was due when I was around 150 lbs, then I got too fat I guess to ask. One person was next to me in the produce section, never saw them before, who out of the blue asked when I was due. I do have a belly, typical of folks who are insulin resitant/pre diabetic.

I just try and tell myself they thought they were being friendly.

I had someone tell me I dressed "too sexy" for my size. Whoever said that big people must wear momoos? Mind you, it was just a short skirt (i'm tall so have longer legs.) She then proceeded to tell me that the reason guys talked to me was because of the way I dressed not because of ME. Can someone say something!!! Anyway, she was and is still bigger than me but I think it bothered her when guys talked to me and not her, given that she considered herself way hotter than me!! (why do we have to compare?? )

Brandy,

I haven't had the surgery but being a big guy most of my life and working in healthcare...I have heard my fair share of comments about my weight.

Some people really have no clue about manners, or courtesy, or respect of any kind. You gotta love when you are doing great, just lost a load of weight and someone bursts your bubble. Hey, I ran a 5K with my 5 year old daughter last summer, Breast Cancer Run, and I weighed around 280lbs and did just fine out there with the skinnies...

Here are some of my comments people have said to me at work (mind you I am taking care of them):

"Wow...your a big guy."

"My brother is a big guy like you."

"You look just like Jon Candy!":cry_smile:

(Personal Favorite, look nothing like Jon Candy)

"Man your fat.."

"You better lose that weight or you'll be diabetic just like me."

"My son has a big belly like you."

"I find fat guys like you hot...!" :w00t:

(I made that one up, sounded good though):)

Just a summary of the comments. So I say, WHATEVER to the people who have no idea how hard it is to battle weight loss.

Keep up the hard work.

My reply to her would have gone something like this "Girl, I'm due in February", what about yourself?

Who ever said that to you was just plain jealous that she didnt have enough confidence to pull it off. I have seen big girls in sexy clothes next to a big girl in sweats...GUESS who looks better!! The same goes for skinny girls in the same clothes. Big girls can be and feel just as sexy as skinny girls!!

Luckily I havent had anyone say anything to me like that bc they would prob walk away crying. I wont stand around and listne to anyone talk about big ppl AT ALL!

My closest friend hasn’t seen me in about 4 months (about 60 lbs of weight loss) met up with me for the first time the other day. As soon as I sat down at the booth across from her, she said, “OH MY GOD, WHERE DID YOUR FACE GO?” I didn’t take it personal- I’ve always had a very chubby, round face and now I have a beautiful slender face with high cheekbones, but I think technically it meets the criteria for rude. Of course when I pointed this out to her, she apologized and acknowledged immediately that not only do I look better, but I look happier and she’s really proud of me. I forgave her immediately J

On a completely different topic, I’m constantly getting congratulated on my weight loss (not shy about telling people how much I’ve lost). I especially love it when I’m at the gym jogging away and some random stranger (male and female alike) walks up to me and says, “You’re doing an amazing job. Keep up the good work!” That just warms my heart. It’s the complete opposite of every fear I ever had about going to the gym. Everyone there understands, no one judges me negatively. It’s a wonderful environment.

I have a 14 year old sister who weighs about 160 and is 5'3. She carries a little extra weight but carries almost all of it in her belly.

Someone came up to me and whispered "OMG I didn't know your sister was pregnant." I was scandalized and offended for both of us. I said "Of couse she isn't pregnant at 14, are you nuts?" I felt bad that people were thinking that about her at the tender age of 14 and felt bad that someone would feel comfortable to come up to me like that (although I would much rather someone ask me then to ask her and make her feel bad).

I then took a second look at my sister and realized I didnt think she looked pregnant because I know her and her body type well (both of my sisters are definite apple shapes while I am a pear).

I then again realized that had I been seeing her for the first time and didn't know any better, I would have thought she was pregnant too. It was because her butt, arms and legs are not heavy, she is not busty and she was wearing a shirt that really showed that she carries her weight in her mid-section.

As you can tell from my screen name, I'm a locomotive engineer for one of the major railroads of the U.S. That being said, at a high weigt of 376 lbs I have heard my share of rude comments. The railroad that I work for (BNSF) has very strict anti harassment policies. In fact like most HUGE companies the penalties for violation of the harassment policies is pretty severe. So, when someone would make a rude comment about my size I would say something back like " You might think that the comment that you just made was funny, but I don't find it funny at all and maybe your not aware that this railroad has a very strict anti harassment policy. I suggest that you research this policy and educate yourself on the policy and what the penalties are for violation of said policy".

Usually they are backpeddaling and appologizing real quick. Not to mention how embarrassed and red in the face they are. Sometimes it's real fun to turn the tables.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
