Hi, getting my band this friday, very nervous! Hoping it is as positive for me as for you guys. Dolan is doing mine too. I keep trying to convince myself it will be the help I need, Dolan spent only 5 minutes with me at his appointment , I feel I don't know what to expect. Did you guys only drink clear fluids for a week afterwards, like they suggest? Will I be able to get back to work 1 week after? Worried I will feel weak from not eating!

Will let you know how I am going

Hi MLP , I went back to work one week after surgery with no problems at all ,was just a bit tender around the surgery area but this did not cause me too much problem . Yes you will on on the Optifast and fluids such as apple juice for a couple of weeks , then the mushies start for a couple of more weeks (baby food is good from your super market , mashed potato etc ). After that you will start to eat normal food which will be trial and error for a while . Good luck you will be fine.... regards ..... Paul

Hi Nat , yes most of us bandsters would agree that it was the best decision we ever made . It was for me thats for sure , I am almost at target weight . Sounds like you went gang busters after banding , 10 months to get where you are now is a very fast result well done . regards ........Paul

Thanks Paul, I feel very lucky because in the past I was one of the people that nothing ever worked for so I was very apprehensive that I would fail with the band also. I can only describe it as a switch being flicked the day I had the band and suddenly my life wasnt all about food but living and having fun and the weight just fell off with no real diet or special food. I hate hate hate all the fast food that I used to crave, its weird but Im not complaining. I do have a mild addiction to cheetos I could eat them happily forever LOL

Thanks Paul, Trying not to think about it too much, but am looking forward to my future, as I know I will be much happier and relieved of the psychological impact having weight on has caused. Thank you for your response will no doubt chat again. mlp

I was banded on Jan 16th 2008 by Dr watson, I started at 147kg, got down to 106kg (a loss of 41kilos) in October, then got pregnant and have since put on 3 kilos:crying:

I am now 18 weeks pregnant and all going well. I am so paranoid about putting on too much weight, but also am so determined to have a healthy bub. This is my second and last pregnancy I was 40 kilos heavier so its gonna be so much easier.

I had a slight unfill since getting pregnant, i can now eat meat, which I thought I needed. I am trying my best to eat healthy foods and I have been exercising. I figure if I can get through this pregnancy by only putting on 10 kilos, I will be happy.

P.S, I have been away for a while, but am feeling better and back

Congratulations, on both your weight loss and you pregnancy. Can understand why you don't want to be putting on weight at this stage, as you have come so far!!I seem to remember from my pregnancies though that a lot of it is baby etc. Which will be lost after bubs is born. Breastfeed and you'll lose that weight again! Babies nutrition is more important now, your setting him/her up for life! Keep your chin up!

Just think you'll be one of those mums that everyone hates, slimming down, when youv'e just had a baby! Love it!

Hi guys, two days in and feeling dreadful. Waves of nausea, and strange sensations in my eosophagus when i drink etc. Wish I didn't feel like i had been beaten up internally. Have made some Tomato Soup today to try and eat something yummy and healthy. Am wondering whether all these awful sensations go away, altogether, as couldn't manage like this until my weight came off! !Please give me some hope, am wondering whether it was worth it!! :)

Hi mlp , yes it is worth it but you will take you at least a week to come right . The body dose not like being tampered with and it is letting you know it , I felt sick for 6 -7 days after but I bounced back just as you will . Just hang in there you will be OK ,your body will adjust as the days go by ( it will get better) . We are all here to help you through kind regards .... Paul

mlp,

two days post surgery and I felt like what have I done to myself? But tomorrow you're going to feel 50% better, and in a week, you're going to be almost 100% back to normal. In a month, you're going to wonder if you have a band in you at all, because you feel just like you did before you were banded.

That's about when you're ready for your first fill!

Hang in there. It gets better from here on in.

I agree. The first week was just awful. Just remember though, once you get through that first week, you'll be well on your way.

Hi all, Well you were right. Although feel awful after dinner, every day do feel 50% better than the day before. Have lost an amazing 6 kilos, can't believe it. No wonder though, far out, it is very difficult. My family have been very supportive. It is quite incredible how much they eat though!! Also, never realised how much food advertising there is on telly. No wonder I couldn't say no to food. Everything is creamier, tastier etc. Can't wait to be slim!!!

Thankyou for all of your support!!!

Sounds fantastic Paul! I will be enjoying sweet potato, pumpkin, peanut Soup, with a little coriander. My most delicious meal yet. You'd laugh have everyone in the house eating soup now. They love it! My 6 year old burst into tears when I told him all of my homemade Tomato Soup was all gone. Have told them all they can only eat spam based meals so I don't want any, feel it's only fair. Lol. Enjoy your Australia day!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
