I was banded on 2/20/09. I have lost 20lbs so far. Very excited. I too have noticed that there are not many foods that have caused an issue. I have been walking and eating very small amounts. I am ready for my first fill on 4/02. Can't wait to see if it makes a difference.

Went yesterday to check the incisions, nine days post surgery. after all those liquids I am only down 3 lbs. Also my port was swollen. The nurse removed 20cc of old blood and liquid from from the site, but he said swelling at the port was pretty typical and that I was still carrying water from the surgery which was 2/28. I do feel bloated :frown:I thought I would have lost more. Any comments, tips etc.

Hi I was band on 2/9/09, and I have losted about 15lbs. I had a port problem as well. On 9/16/09 the incision where my port is located swelled so bad that it hurt and caused the incisionto bleed again. Well I went back to the Doctor he did not withdraw any blood from the spot, he just said it was normal sort of and sent me on my way. Wel I went on with this problem for about another two weeks and finally it has healed some and some swelling has subsided. I'm glad about at least I know it not infected any. he had prescribe some antiboctic for me but I did not need to take it. Plus I have enough pills to take that I have crush or open up caps that are yuky.

Good luck on your journrey to healing and wieght loss

Hey girl,

That is so great you lost so much weight already! Are you eating right and exercising?

I was banded on 2-9 and I've lost 30 lbs. I am now starting to get hungry faster and I am able to eat more...my 1st fill is in 2 weeks. Just in time!!

Hi all. I am healing but definitely need a fill. Very hungry now. Also have lost about 18 pounds, counting presurgery liquids and now. But definitely need a fill. Feeling better as well.

Wow! Congrats on the 18 pound weight loss! That is great! I need a fill already too. I am hungry a lot.:tt2:

I gained 3# but down 14# overall since my surgery. I could readily eat anything and I think I got a little too comfortable with that until I stepped on the scale and saw the additional 3#. I called the doc and got a 1cc fill today. Its really a mindset to put that fork down and listen to your belly instead of taking 45 minutes to slowly eat everything on your plate. It just tasted so good. Live and learn. It really is a new lifestyle to get used to.

i had my first fill last saturday, but i'm not sure if it's enough. i still feel hungry between meals some days, and i can eat 2 cups of foods at dinner. on the flip side, i'm tight in the morning and usually am only able to have a protein drink or some yogurt. and lunch is usually half a sandwich or some tuna and veggies. i find myself grazing all afternoon and some evenings too. should go in and get more?

Hey there,

I just got my first fill on monday and I'm a bit upset. I'm getting used to the whole chewing really good so that the food doesn't get stuck in my chest thing, but I still don't have restriction. At least I don't feel like I do. I think I should give it a chance but I am feeling like regretting getting the band instead of the gastric because of the maintanence after. When is a good time for the next fill? Should I give it a chance to set in a few weeks first?

I don't think you should regret your choice yet. There is a woman in my support group that has the band AFTER having the gastric by-pass. She slowly stretched her stomach over a few years and ended up gaining almost all her weight back...200 lbs...so...moral is there is no easy fix. Once you get restriction, you will lose weight. My doctor says it is harder to go too far astray on teh band because you cannot stretch it. So after two years, most weight loss between by-pass and band end up being about the same. But with the band, you are getting more nutrients. Just remember this is a long process, don't get frustrated so soon!

I was banded on Feb 20th. Doing great lost 15 lbs.

I live in Chesapeake VA that's not to far from Greenville. I had my surgery Feb 20th doing good lost 15lbs. How are you doing?

Hi how are you doing I had My surgery Feb 20th

Trust me this is normal...until you start really feeling hitting your stride (around your sweet spot) you will feel like you can eat just like your normally do. I anticipated this, and just ate really really healthy, lots of salads, lots of protein, and basically cut out carbs completely. I went in on Tuesday for fill #4, and after I came of liquids that first day after I tried a salad which I could have previously finished and only ate 1/4th! I wasn't really hungry the rest of the day, and tried some chicken at night, and was horribly tight...so now I am seeing the restriction, and it is like night and day, it just takes a while to get there. You will be thankful you DIDN'T get gastric, though the weight comes off FAST a bunch of people at my work had it done, and yes you can tell, but mainly because they are like deflated balloons, because their skin hasn't been able to retain it's elasticity as the weight comes off. Doing it gradually like this, although slow and completely frustrating at times, will be a more healthy gradual drop that will keep your tone and skin firmer as you do it, plus the added benefit of not having completely rerouted your anatomy. Keep it up, you will get there!
