Anyone with fibromyalgia that's had the lap band ?

Recommended Posts

Hi !

I guess I'm full of questions today. I have Fibromyalgia so when my stress levels fire up ,so do some aches and pains. I was curious if anyone else noticed an improvement with their Fibro symptoms after losing weight ?

Thanks!

im four months post op and it has got better but there are some days its still there maybe it gets better as the days go on

Thank you for the response. It's nice to know there is hope. I think too as we continue to lose weight, some of the stress that's associated with being overweight will go away and that in it's self, will possibly help with the fibro flare ups.

I have fibro and am 5 months post op. The thing I hate the most is that I would like to start exercising to help my weight loss but I just can't the fibro is so bad I am in pain all the time, especially if I walk to much or do too much. But that is not a lap band problem, my doc thinks the lap band can "cure" fibro, but I know skinny people with fibro too so I dont know, but maybe it makes the pain less by getting the heavy weight off. Good luck!

I totally understand what you're saying. Hopefully with us losing the weight, some of the stress from just being heavy will be gone. For me just about any kind of stress gets my fibro going but i'm hopeful.

Maybe we should start a Fibro thread or keep using this one, to stay in touch and see each others progress with Fibro and how the lapband effects each of us. I am curious how each one will be effected differently. What do you guys think? May be a good resource for when we are having bad days too.....

I too have fibromyalgia and am in pain regularly. In fact, right now I'm sitting here on my couch with pain in my shoulders, back, and legs that is making it hard to function. Combine this with the fatigue and its miserable. I am hoping to be banded in January sometime and I really hope that it helps the symptoms as well. They keep saying to exercise, but if it hurts so much to simply sit, how can you exercise? I'll be interested to see how much the lap band surgery helps the symptoms of everyone. I agree that we need a subgroup for us with fibro/CFS. :)

I also agree..whoever knows how should start a new thread for us to keep in touch with each other. Must be the day..my shoulders/neck are extra sore today. Fatigue well thats everyday. (couldn't be because i work 55 + hours a week)

Keep in touch all....keep fighting

Hi Twiggy! I understand how you feel. What I find works for me and this will probably sound strange but when I feel achy,I tend to push myself to go for a walk,I find that it helps.

I to have fibromylagia, I have found that exercise, even during flare ups is the best medicine. I do take naproxen twice daily for the swelling and pain. Even on the days when I ache so bad I don't want to get out of bed I move. There were nights in the beginning of my weight loss that I exercised during the day and couldn't sleep at night because of the pain. Them instances have definately decrease. I don't have the flare ups as often anymore and are better able to cope with them when I do. Good Luck and Keep Moving.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
