What's up June Bansters?

Recommended Posts

Hello June Bandsters-

I was just curious where everyone was at- I was banded on 6/15- and have not had a fill yet- I go for a fill at the 4-6 week mark,

I'm on mushies- and have been having a few solids- nothing too tough- lathough I must confess I've been eating lettuce- God- I hope it doesn't kill me-

I have a hard time eating such small portions and I know sometimes I over do it- even with healthier foods- but I'm sticking to fitday.com and have been at about 1100-1200 calories per day and trying to keep the fat grams low- 20-25 grams.

My typical day is 2 hardboiled eggs, tuna or chix salad with lf mayo and 3-4 Water crackers, 1/2 banana or a sf/ff pudding or jello- and more chix/tuna salad for dinner with a few crackers,

How are you guys doing- and what kind of stuff do you eat?

ROCK ON JUNE BANSTERS.

Keri, it sounds like you are doing really well and facing the challenges straight up!

I was banded on 27 June and am still on the liquid phase which is pretty excrutiating - Soup is losing its allure, let me tell you! I have been getting hungrier – I put that down to the swelling subsiding. My first dose of hiccups last night redefined ‘discomfort’ too! Despite liquids only I have lost less weight than I expected to – bummer!

I find FitDay to be a great help too, it just needs a conversion feature for us metric/kilojoule folks!

Hello, I was banded on the 30th and I am feeling great. I have lost 17 pounds so far and I am still on the liquid diet. I get to start mushies up on the 14th and I can't wait. I am not feeling hungry yet but I am sure it will come.

I will have to check out fitday.com and give it a try and hopefully keep calories down. That will be key! Thanks for posting this so we can keep in touch.

Hey! Banded on the 23rd and doing fine. Lost 13 pounds right away then screeeeeech, the scale stopped at the end of the first week. I also got a visit from Aunt Flo right then so I think that stopped my loss. I've lost now just one more pound since then.

It's okay tho, it totals out to 23 lbs going back to before surgery and I can tell it! Pants are looser and my ankles aren't so swollen. THAT's a plus.

I was re-reading my post op handbook from my doc and realized that this week I could have pureed meats. OH BLISS. So I just had a can of tuna and some mayo that I beat to death in my magic bullet type device. I made it into a paste but OH HEAVEN to have that instead of soup!!! It went down fine.

Exercise has been good too. Been feeling good enough to do 45 mins at still only a 20 min mile pace. But it gets my heart up and me all sweaty so I must be doing something right!

One thing I see will be a long term problem is gas. I've ALWAYS got gas. Any bandster ideas for keeping that down? It's pretty rough.

Hello...banded June 13th and I still have a little restriction. (It could be my mind though.) I am going to my first fill in about 2 weeks. I am down @ 33 pounds since the first of June. I am very excited...

I eat eggs, egg salad, grilled fish, chicken, tune, cottage cheese, grits, fresh fruits, green Beans. I have been able to add alot in, my thing is I still measure all my food and only eat what I have on my plate....I just have to keep to that. Support!! Support!! Support!! It really helps.

Way to go June Bandsters!!!!

I was banded June 16th. I am still on liquid diet -KILLING ME!! and I have had a near impossible time - I am down 22 pounds and feel fantastic - totally normal!! My scars are barely there and just look like little scratches (per others). I have eaten food a couple of times ( and over done it once or twice) I definatly have restriction, but am looking forward to my fill on the 23rd. I feel really guilty for cheating a few times. My weightloss has stoped, but my clothes and face are totally different!! Anyhow, I am gald everyone is doing so well- thank God for all of you ( I don't know what I would do - as noone around me really knows!) Thanks Jen

I was banded on June 8th and am still on full liquids! I have not had a fill yet. I go for my next appt with the doctor in two days and will be estatic to go to mushies. I have to admit I have snuck in a baked potato twice and scrambled eggs twice. I think I am a little unusual because I do feel a little restriction - I just know when it is time to stop. Maybe it is because of this that as of today I am down 24 pounds. Of course I was eating like a PIG prior to surgery trying to get in everything that I couldn't have for a while. I didn't realize before surgery that I would be on liquids for 6 weeks - the doctor sprung this on us the day of discharge. He did three of us that day and we were his first three! Surprise!!!

Hi All!

I was banded 6/22 and I've been on full liquids. Today is my last day and then to solids. My dr doesn't allow mushies. Tomorrow will be GLORIOUS! I feel great, although the hot hot weather here in NY really saps all my energy by the end of the day. I go for my first fill 8/8.

I see alot of people are on liquids for 6 weeks after surgery. Is that the normal length of time to stay on liquids? Is seems like a long time to me. And then add in the pre op liquid diet? ? Yikes!

Well in our pre-op nutrition classes we were given the diet schedule that the nutritionist said was what the average doctor did. It was liquids for about 4 days, mushies for about a week (the calendar showed adding a new type of food every other day), and then onto solids. I guess because we were the first he did, he wanted to be extra caution. I think i compensate for six weeks of liquids by always talking about food and watching The Food Network on TV at least 5 hours a day. I now know how to make all these delicious meals that i should be able to eat soon - God Willing!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
