I am hoping for some eating advice. I am required to travel extensively for my job. Can anyone tell me what I should eat when I am on the road and eating 3 meals a day from a restaurant? I want to be prepared to eat the right amount of calories and Protein while traveling so if anyone can offer some restaurant tips or food that travels well I would greatly appreciate it. I can be gone as long as a week at a time and fly so am limited what I can carry.

Thanks.

Shawn

Hi Shawn,

I am also a road warrior and was so especially during my 1st year being banded. I found it very difficult to tolerate foods when traveling, especially when in Europe. You didn't say how long you have been banded, or if you have restriction, so I will assume you have normal restriction. At first I found it hard to get over the "someone else is paying for this meal mentality". Here are some things that I do to make traveling easier:

-I always have Snacks with me like a Protein bar or granola bar. This is often a Meal Replacement when I can't eat.

-I bring oatmeal packets with me. It is easy to get hot Water to add and eat this for Breakfast.

-At restaurants if you are with other people and self-conscious about your eating, order something you know will be easy, like Soup or a baked sweet potato and veggies.

- I also bring Protein powder with me in a ziploc bag. I add this to water/milk when I need to get my Protein in.

Hi, I don't travel alot but we do go to dinner out quite a bit, usally I order appetizer, or small salad with grilled meat, or Soup. If you are still in liquids phase, order veggie soup eat just broth.

Keep Protein bars in your suitcase, ck for low sugar and carbs you don't won't to defeat your purpose. Kraft makes cheese sticks lowfat, just peel and enjoy. I love my fat free cottage cheese and lite fruit cup for Breakfast.< /p>

You just have to be aware of what you can tolerate, keep Protein Powder to add to skim milk.

Hope some of this helps, good luck, you can do it.

You are correct. I often think that someone else is paying for this meal so.....I am working on that mentality.

When you are restricted, can you eat salads with chicken or salmon? If you order a appetizer like beef carpacchio or ahi tunu or shrimp cocktail do you order a vegetable or a side salad?

I also need to print out the list of food and its content -- calories, Protein, sugar, etc so I make sure I am eating the right amount of Protein. I will invest in some whey protein powder and carry that with me for protein. Do you eat 3 meals and a couple of Snacks? Could I do a Protein shake for a snack if I know that I am not getting enough protein?

Thanks for all your help.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
