Hi Babe,

I just read here that you are loosing weight again, what did you do to get it going again as I am on a plateau right now.

Any ideas would be great. I have lost 22 pounds with fitday since November, but need to keep going.

So any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Gerdi

Hey Gerdi,

It's been a combo of things - attitude adjustment, tracking my food, and regular exercise. I think i've finally wrapped my head around how I use food to deal with my feelings of boredom, and anxiety. Also, I've cut off my dependence on chocolate. It's amazing what a difference that mental shift has made. We'll see how it goes over time...

That's awesome about the 22lbs gone!!! You said you've hit a plateau, I say re-evaluate what and how you eat, kick up the exercise, and then if that doesn't do anything try a fill. I'm sure others will have ideas too...

Babe

Babe you said it all. Attitude is 99% the battle once the band is in and adjusted. There are many ways to sabatogue a band but if used correctly it is a godsend. For me anyways. I had a horrible winter mostly because of stress, now I am back on track without too much damage being done.

Well done Babe for not giving up.

H everyone :)

I'm soooo sorry that I didn't make it to the meeting last night. I had every intention of being there, left home and got as far as Squamish and my car started acting funny. I whipped into my sister's place and had her hubby have a look and he thought it was probably the carb of fuel pump/filter.....and he didn't think I should take the chance of heading to Van and breaking down. So I turned around and headed back up the highway and home. I made it without any issues but I am getting the car into the shop tomorow to have it looked at 'cause it's still acting up.

I wanted to see you all!!!! I look forward to getting together for a chat all month.....~sigh~.

It sounds like a few of you were there, I'm glad to hear that and that you all had a good chat and could help each other out.

P~

We just talked about you most of the time, lol. Sorry to have missed you. Might be absent for most of the spring/summer because of golf but it was nice to see everyone doing well. Will try to catch up here once in awhile.

Cheers, Lyn

Hi everyone! Just wanted to pop my head in and say hi. I was banded in Winnipeg on Tuesday the 26th, and so far, so good. I live in North Van, so there's absolutely no reason for me not to attend the monthly meetings, except that I travel a lot for work. So I've got my fingers crossed that I can be there for the May meeting.

Look into the False Creek Clinic. The manitoba clinic is affiliated with them. Their members come out to the Lions Gate. Also, there is Dr. Amson (sp) in Victoria does lapband as well.

There is a Dr. Leung, he is a good surgeon, but posts have indicated he lacks beside manners. Last but not least, there is a Dr. Woodhead in Ladner/Delta . All are good surgeons.

However, I cannot over emphasize aftercare more. Not all of them provide aftercare except for a website. When you start to have your fills and defills, having your aftercare in place is crtical. If you like to come out to the Lions Gate Hospital you can ask all the questions you like of our members. We welcome all pre banded, banded, or just researching the band.

Hi,I see Dr.Arsneau on the 15th of June (my first fill),It dose take a few weeks to see him but my Dr.had nothing but good things to say.Dr.A also got back to me the same day(via e-mail) I am very happy I donot have to go to the USA for my fills although it is still an option.down town is so much better

Good luck..

RE: Dr. Arsneau

What was the patient's impressions of him?

Still thinking it might be best to get my first fill done with the surgeon in Mexico. But if his/her impressions were good, then perhaps I can get my second fill done with him.

Just for everyone's information:

The lap band support group meetings at Lions Gate Hospital have discontinued. Attendance had dwindled in the last year & other priorities came up for Patricia, who began the group initially.

I understand there are support meetings held for bariatric patients at Mt St Joseph Hospital, as well as St Paul's Hospital. If anyone can provide information for these meetings, please do.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
