Back to working out????

Recommended Posts

Hey Sistergrl25,

In a couple of the other forums - 'Fitness and Exercise' I've heard responses ranging from light weights at 1 week to others who took a full 6 weeks off.

I think it's partly personal preference, and partly what kind of workout you were doing (and the shape you're in) prior to surgery. I know for me - I'll be asking my doc. I'm currently doing weights 4 days a week, and don't want to go to NOTHING for 6 weeks - heck, I'll lose all my new muscle! :wink2:

Definately check with your doctor - just to be safe. Good luck!:crying:

Make sure to check with your doctor first before taking advice here so you know what guidelines to stay in. My doc told me absolutely NO exercise other than WALKING until after 30 days and I started regular foods. He said it's important to walk as much as I can daily, but after that I could do more brisk walking/jogging if I could, weights, etc. The only major restriction was no abdominal exercises for about 2-3 months to give time for my port to heal. I've known people to pull muscles in their stomach because of bending over too much, stretching stomach too much, etc. Remember they had to cut through those muscles to place your port and it takes a while to heal fully on the inside. But listen to your body after the guidelines and you'll do just fine!

I was given the okay to do all exercises 6 weeks after surgery. It has been a gradual process. I am learning to listen to my body as an indicator of how much I can do. The best thing to do would be to take it really easy at first paying attention to what doesn't feel right. I'm about 2 1/2 months postop and can do pretty much everything except for full sit ups.

I just went back last week, so it's been a full year. It just took me that long to get back to the gym. lol. I would say give it a while for your band to heal in place befor you do any exercises that stretch muscles in that area. Maybe 3-4 months. But I would think that you can walk or work the treadmill after a week or two

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
