Almost one year after surgery

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on October 9, 2007. I have a large band it holds 10cc..the doctor has about 10.85cc in it now. The past month I have experienced alot of heart burn and acid reflux. I called the doctor and he told me to take pepsid ac and Maloox. He said if that doesn't work he would have to take some out and make it bigger because it could be too tight. Has anyone else have this problem before. Just wondering how anyone else has made out. Thanks for your help. Nancy

My surgeon and most of the people I have talked to say that those are some signs of having too much restriction. If you have a 10cc band why is it filled past 10? That doesn't seem right to me...

Nancy you are not alone. I did have to have some fill removed because of acid reflux. It helps, but in my case, did not solve the problem. I take meds now. That too helps. Go ahead and have some fill removed. It won't take much, but a little goes a long way for comfort!

Most of the larger bands are meant to be overfilled. i have seen quite a few people who are filled more than their band size. I have also experienced more frequent heart burn in the last month. my year is also coming up, OCtober 3rd but i don't have trouble getting really anything down anymore. My dad also has acid reflex. That could be it for me. I have also heard that heart burn is a sign of slippage.

I too had my band done Oct. 2007 and I have been having reflux so bad!! I am on prevacid already and I have to go tomorrow for an upper gi and most likely get an unfill. But I just got a tiny fill last month because I was gaining. Since the fill last month I started losing again. This is so frustrating!!!! I am ready to ask for this band to removed.

Hi Lucy,

Thanks for your reply. I really appreciate it. I am also really frustrated at this point. I had really bad acid reflux the past couple of days..Last night I ate too fast and was in alot of pain the rest of the evening. I told my husband I want it out. I was so upset. I called my doctor today and going in on Wednesday to get some taken out so I can feel better. Thanks again. Nice talking with you. Have a good day. Nancy

I had this problem occasionally over the last month or two. It came to a head last week where I had constant reflux all night and had to have an emergency unfill. In my case, I was definitely a little too tight.

I hate the acid but i am not as frustrated as you guys. i think being thin is worth a little heartburn. i can't dream of getting my band removed. I mean maybe after I have kids but my biggest fear is to gain it back. i also think the band probably need a little more than a year to effecting your brains eating habbits. Its suppoesed to help you learn Portion Control so you can eventually have it removed. I mean and that will take even longer for you 2 because your eating habbits have probably been the same for so many years.

Im 8.0cc's in a 10cc band. I felt the restriction 7 days after the fill now ive felt nothing for 6 days. If it wasnt for all these lapband pamphlets laying around my house i'd forget i even had one in this second week.

My question is, when i get to 8.5cc's how long will the restriction/tightness/night coughs/reflux/heart burn last? A week? Two weeks? A month? If I dont get an unfill?

I will go on a liquid diet if need be.

You should ask your doctor to see if you have a hital hernia. I did and he fixed it during surgery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
