I've had to cut myself off from shopping too. Not only is it expensive, but the new stuff is quickly getting too big already. The stuff I just bought last month will be too big next month which is a great thing, but still. I also have a closet full of clothes plus several boxes of clothes that will fit soon, so I shop there. :cursing: I have however switched addictions too....

When I was disgusted with myself and felt ugly, I never wanted to wear any jewelry or anything that might draw attention to myself. I guess I didn't feel worthy. Now that I'm getting cuter, I want to wear jewlry and shoes, the whole nine yards. I like to make stuff so I have gotten back into making jewelry. I had given it up because it wasn't fun making stuff for other people to wear. I'm going to have to stay out of the bead store. I'm out of control!! I have to have a new necklace or whatever for every outfit I have. I tell myself every time I go in, "I'm just going to look and get some more ideas", yeah right!! I end up leaving with tons of stuff. I look at the jewelry that is in style right now in the store and think "I'm not paying $30 for that when I can make it for $10". So, in the long run I'm saving money right?!? LOL! Yeah, I know I'm in denial. :huh2:

That's awesome Bea. I have a friend that makes jewelry - she is selling hers online now. I wish I could make the time...I'd have to and like you it would be a new addiction...LOL...I already have issues when I go into Hobby Lobby or Michaels.

Kohl's has AWESOME shoes... Now that I have skinny ankles and no longer have fat toes or swollen feet, I love to try on sexy shoes. Even if I don't buy them, I put them on and parade around in them. I bought 5 pairs of shoes this summer alone. Now for the fall shoes!!!!

Love it a sexy Red Dress is the first item I will buy when I hit my goal. Same with sexy shoes. Been ages since I had them.

What is cool about where I had my Lap Band done, Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA is they have a clothing swap every few months, you bring in your clean and not too worn clothing that is too big for you and you can exchange it for smaller sized clothing. What a good idea when you are getting slimmer, saves you tons of money till you get down to goal. Have to go through and find a few things that are getting big on me and bring them in.

Also a spa treatment and hair and face being done would be a nice mid-weight loss pick me up. Maybe I can get that for Christmas LOL

They were also talking about swapping food addictions for others and well we do have to be careful of that.

take care all

Pati

PS I was thin most of my life, I even wore a size 3 at one time....I don't think I will ever be that small, but a size 10 would be super. LOL:tongue2::smile2::tongue2::lol::tongue2::crying::tongue2::crying:

wow thats really cool that they trade clothes. I wish they would have had that here. My mom is a size 16 and my sister is a size 7 so I had enough clothes between sizes. But that trading thing is something they should start doing in more places.

I have never worn a bealt! Ever but I did get a super cute short halter top dress for graduation and i looked hot. lol :] I can cross my legs now too. Even better.

Yeah i did not realise how much i cross my legs now, here in western australia no clothes swap places drats, but the op shops are great, unless get sidetracked in the normal shopping centres, the asian stores - which i fit into their clothes now have lovely unusual bits too. I was going to put on dark red polish but thought would go with the latest craze here black, so black feet - toes i should say and fingernails. Girls oh and guys by the time we are done we will all be model material - just picture that, have watched lots of transformations on the laurie povich show ------ we are going to be them --------stay focused on that.:smile2:

I only scanned the posts here, and it didn't look like anybody addressed the issue that is going on.

There is a good chance that what you are referring to is addiction jumping. My pastor does a self help support group where he talks about people going from one addiction to another that doesn't peeve people off as much.

I would say the majority of us are food addicts. What happens when you can't use food anymore, but you haven't addressed the underlying issue's that caused you to overeat?? Addiction jump.

Oprah did a show in the last year or so with women who had WLS, mostly bypass, and the women on her show had become alcoholics. You can also get more into drugs... shopaholic, sexaholic etc etc etc.

I went into this surgery knowing that shopping would most likely be my issue because it was an issue before the surgery and of course I can't afford that. I also pre-planned that I would be extra aware of the use of alcoholic beverages.

Hey Ladies,

I KNOW I'm going to have to rein myself in...I'm already a heavy-duty shopper, and once I'm banded and lose some of the excess weight, I'm going to need serious help! :cool2::)

Not really - I have lots of other priorities, but I love the idea of setting up a special savings account for clothing purchases. I'm going to do that next week when I get paid again, and put it into a different bank than my normal so I won't think about it too much. If I put $50 away every payday, soon I'll have quite the little shopping nest egg...

I'll buy a few things as I change sizes (and in styles that can move through a few sizes - wrap dresses, belted things, elastic waist that can be altered by me at home, etc) and save the majority for the new wardrobe I'll need when I reach my goal.

I have to find a clothes swap though - or at least discipline myself to post my things on EBay...I have a killer leather dress in black and red that I'm going to HATE to give up, but just think of the hot one I'll get when I reach goal...:w00t:

You know heavy girls always have the best accessories. Focus on the actual clothes girls. You probably have enough accessories to fill a few rooms by now. Now match your clothes with them. :]

Hollie - the bad part of the shoe problem - my feet have shrunk. I have 4 pairs of shoes in my closet now (recently purchased) - 1 good pair of running shoes (cost me a fortune, but I needed them), 1 black, 1 brown, 1 red pair of heels for work (I always wanted a red pair) and some witch boots.

I really don't believe I have addiction transfer issues. I don't go shopping all the time - only when necessary. That is when my clothes fit like tents or need safety pins to hold on. I admit that I love it now though. Things actually look decent and that makes it so much more fun. I'm holding out for a new wardrobe when I get to goal...I am also stashing back funds for that day. In a few months I'm going to be out of the size I'm in now and don't want to waste my money.

I do have several staples (black pants, brown pants and one skirt) that I can mismatch. I have two cute summer dresses I'm going to hate giving up too. I've gotten the use out of them though.

I have a money addiction. lol So when it comes time to pay, I can't let go of the cash. You should see me at Walmart. By the time I get to the front, half my cart is scattered around the store because I go ehh, I don't need this and set it down. I'm bad.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
