Does everyone have to wait 6 months

Recommended Posts

I did not know that I would have to do a six month mandatory program prior to the lap band until I went to the siminar. Is this something that is now required for everyone?

Nope I think it depends on the hospital and your insurance. I had my first appointment with the doctor on june 17th and i had surgery on Aug 11th.

Good luck in your journey into bandland!

Who is your insurance? I am not required to wait six months also and was wondering what your insurance did require from you?

I have a Aetna PPO and I have to wait six months and See a nutrtionist every moth to discuss my reduce calorie Diet. They told me I had to do 1,500 a day MAX for 6mos to help me loose 10% of my bodyweight before surgery. I'm on month 3 I will done with all consults in November. There are days when it goes by so fast and days not so much..LOL..Keep yourself active & Busy and before we know it we will have our surgery date.

I went to the mandatory seminar 7/10 and was scheduled for surgery 8/11. I didn't get the band because my liver was too thick and I didn't follow surgeon's preop directions to the letter (shame on me) but there was no 6 month waiting period. That depends on surgeon and insurance.

Thank you all for your responses. Yes, I have Kaiser, I know before they did not require this, but its a new thing now. I will not get to see the surgeon I believe until month 2 0r 3 of the program and I am required to loose 10% of my body weight. I can do the options program, partial options or a low cal diet. It seems like the procee is getting more strict than before and I am surprised since its just the lap band and not the bypass.

well I had the surgery, just no band! LOL (I've got the 6 holes to prove it

Doc said to stick RELIGIOUSLY to the preop diet and he'll try again 8/29!

I can say for me, post op pain is non-existent (and he said how I do now is how I'll feel with the band) so that's good. A few tylenol and I'm good to go!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
