Pain Management Medication . . .

Recommended Posts

Can anyone out there who has had the banding, or knows the answer to this question let me know what kind of pain management program they put you on after surgery? When you come out of the surgery do they give you something like Dilauded? Or Morphine? Or something else? What about while you are recovering? What should one expect as far as post-surgical pain and how medications help? Can you ingest pain pills, or do they give it to you in a different form?

Thanks.

They gave me vicodin, I took it for 3 days then I didn't need it. My pain was bad the first day but got better as the days went on. I couldn't take morphine, I am allergic to it.

In the hospital i was given a morphine drip and when i was ready to go home they were going to give me percs or vics, but I get nausea off of them so I went home with liquid tyenol with codeine in it. Nothing to exciting. Good Luck..I am only 2 days out!

I'm guessing it was Morphine in my drip, but they didn't really say. When I was released the following day, I went home with a 2 day supply of Supradol. When that ran out they said to use liquid Tylenol if needed. I did take it for a couple of days, but I don't think that I even really needed it. I didn't have much pain just a little port soreness. At first I had no CO2 pains in my shoulder, I think because I walked quite a bit for the 1st few days after surgery, then I didn't walk on the 4th or 5th day, then the next day I got the shoulder gas pains. The walking really helps with them. I started right back to walking and they felt better, but still there a little.

I've heard that about walking. I plan on getting my walk on next week and get myself back into semi-decent walking shape so that I can power through and heal faster. Good information!

Honestly? I did not get the band (liver too fat) but my surgeon told me the pain I felt postop is how I'd feel after the band, too. I got 2 mg of morphine in the recovery room and that was it.

Doc prescribed lortab but I didn't realize it is hydrocodone and tylenol; it makes me vomit so I can't take it. SO I've been on tylenol. The tape over my little "insertion sites" hurt more than anything and that was minor!

I do recover quickly from anesthesia but I think if you don't expect to be in pain you won't be. My doc says he has people back at work full time in 1 week...just no heavy lifting. I feel great and would feel greater if my liver hadn't been too thick, but am rescheduled for 8/29.

It really doesn't hurt; I've stubbed my toe and it hurt more than this!

i was given morphine thru my IV after my surgery until the middle of the night. (i chose to spend the nite in the hospital). after that i was put on liquid vicodin and was giving a prescription of 4 days worth of liquid vicodin for home.

the night after my surgery (while in the hospital) and the day after were the most painful. it is VERY difficult to sit up from a laying down position. after those 2 days i felt fine. i was even sleeping on my stomach by the 5th day after surgery.

don't be shy... if you feel you need the pain meds, take them... that's why they give them out!

In the hospital they alternated morphine and toradol. They sent me home with liquid Percocet.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
