Airport Security

Recommended Posts

I know that this has probably been posted before but I always have a heck of a time searching/finding an answer.

Anyway, I’ll be traveling to Disney in September :) and I was wondering if anyone has encountered any issues at the airport? When I spoke to my doctor yesterday, he explained to me that there is titanium in the lap band and that when I go through the airport security it shouldn’t set anything off. Has anyone had this issue going through security if so what did you do? I also asked my doctor for a medical card stating that I had the procedure but for some reason they don’t give them out, kind of strange when you actually have a device in you. I mean what if something happened who would let them know that I have one????:confused2:

Thanks,

Jenn

Hi there,

I traveled to Chicago in June and had absolutely no issue getting thru security. I, too, will be traveling to Disney late in August and again expect no problems going thru security. I do have a card though that my doctor gave me that I can keep in my wallet stating that I have a lap band. It also has the actual picture of my lapband from the xray taken after the surgery to make sure it was in place.

I have a plate and 9 screws in my ankle. They have been there since I was 16. I have never set off any airport security. I remember being afraid that I would though.

Have fun on your vacation!

I've flown 6 or 7 times since my surgery in December and have not had any issues. No worries. You'll be fine---AND you're all set to have a fantastic vacation! Disney would be far more enjoyable for me at this size than the last time I was there....

I haven't flown since having the band, so I can't help you there. But, I was given a card from my surgeon, explaining that I have the lapband, the size of the band and contact numbers for my physician. I carry it in my wallet. It's the size of a credit card.

Haven't traveled anywhere since 05/29 (band date), but my M.D. did give me a card (size of a credit card) with his name, two contact numbers, and a big warning that "under no circumstances can this patient ever have a nasogastric tube placed!!" On the flip side it states "this patient has had stomach surgery (LAPBAND) and must eat very small meals. Please allow him/her to order smaller portions or from the children's menu". I thought this was going the extra mile on their part to help me even beyond the clinic setting.

HAVE A GREAT VACATION!!!

I don't fly but my surgeon told me that the port can sometimes set off those hand-held wands that they use at security checkpoints, he told me to carry my "I have a lap band" card if I ever fly...just in case.

When I went t my seminar they said you need to carry a card for the lapband just in case it does set off a very sensitive detector. They said it is like having a prostectic just ours is inside and not at the end of a limb. If your doctor won't giveyou one I know there is a website you can go and get them from. I will have to look it up so if you want me to find it send me a message and I will try to locate it in my book.

have flown several times post-banding. No issues.

I do have a card that I could show, but I don't know that the security personnel would be knowledgeable about the band and that might just set off a whole other set of discussions. I haven't had to use it, and don't anticipate this changing.

Have a great holiday.

I have flown several times and never had a problem. I did read somewhere that if they have to scan you with the wand that it will register but the manufacturer suggests showing them your scars and explaining what it is.

My doc gave me a card stating that i have a lap band and the size it is and the serial # . I just flew to Florida recently and it did not go off.

I would ask the doc for the card again

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
