Disappointment??? just want to complain about my day I had.

Disappointment……… just want to complain about my day I had.

I had my surgery on June 12, 2008. Two weeks later was my follow up visit. At my follow up they set up for my first fill for today 7/29/08. However when I got to the appointment today ten minutes after my appointment time I found out that my doctor was out of town and no fill would happen.

I was so frustrated because last time I was there they talked about how its first come first serve and get there early. I was there over an hour early. I had paid for visit and sat in the waiting room and only found out after I went asked. I was told they called everyone and canceled. I don’t have any call on my home or cell phones from them. Another girl and I sat there for no reason. I had taken the day off and drove for almost 2 hours to get there (because of all the traffic.) and then an hour and half back home all for nothing.

When I was there the nurse said I could come back on August 12th see another doctor or I would have to wait until the end of August to see my doctor. I just told her to make the appointment for the 12. Now I’m thinking I should call her and wait to see my doctor. Back when I had my follow up from my surgery it was stressed how the first few times you need to see your doctor do the fill. Then you could schedule with other doctors in the office. So now I think I should see my doctor. Then on the other had I also feel like I should just go on the 12 and get my first fill…………

Thanks anyone who just read. I know there’s nothing I can really do but suck it up and move on

Wow that is really a shame. I'd be so mad! It doesn't sound like they're very organized. First come, first served? What kind of system is that? And they only do fills a few times a month?

It is really your decision but personally I would go for the earlier fill, no matter which doctor does it. My doctor doesn't do our fills, the nurse/nutritionist does. As long as the doctor or nurse is qualified and experienced at giving fills, it wouldn't matter to me.

Next time it might be a good idea for you to call the morning of your appointment and confirm and just make sure they still have the appointment on their books and the doctor is in, before driving all that way!

Don't give up. I think the most frustrating part is how long it takes to lose the weight. I'll find out when it comes to my turn. Keep your chin up.

I am so sorry this happened to you. Too bad we can't charge doctors for wasting our time like that.

My 2 cents?? Go ahead and get the fill. Why should you have to wait even longer???. Anyone doing fills in the office should be just as qualified as your original surgeon. JMHO

That really sucks!!!! When you do finally see your Dr. remember to tell him about it!

Wish there was something we could do to help besides listen---but since that pretty much covers it---we are always here!

what a horrible experience. you have EVERY right to be pissed off! i wouldn't wait for your doctor... any doctor can give a fill. shoot, i haven't seen my surgeon since the day of my surgery. he has other people in his practice giving the fills... and i'm okay with that. he's a surgeon and it doesn't take a surgeon to give a fill! just my opinion...

You know, with gas being 10 gazillion dollars a gallon I would without question ask who his office manager is and explain the time that you took off to do this and were never called. I personally would be asking for them to get you filled and now. Waiting yet another two weeks is craziness in my opinion. I would also very nicely try and get some sort of a monetary credit if you are a cash pay. Just MHO.

Wow!! what a horrid experience! I would be pissed, too. That is insane. I work in the medical field, have worked in physician offices and there is no excuse for that! If i were you, i would just have the fill ASAP since you need it and try to see the doctor for your next one to make sure you're where you're supposed to be at with fills, etc ... i chose a very small solo practice for this kind of reason.. living in houston, i could have gone to the most famous WLS surgeon but chose not to, because i didn't want to be a "number" and herded like cattle through his office .. i wanted to go somewhere that i could have a close relationship with my surgeon, which is how my physician practices. He does his own fills. I never see anyone else, but that was my choice to choose someone like that. I am very picky and i don't want to ask questions to a nurse or medical assistant. I just wanted a different experience. I know not everyone has that option but i am sorry that happened to you.

I too go to a doctor with a smaller practice and get his FULL attention. No offense to anyone, but I would never let my doctor's nurse do my fills, and I expect to see my doctor every time I go. I pay for an office visit, and I expect him to do it. My question is, did you get your money back for the visit. You mentioned that you paid for it prior to sitting down and waiting. I think you should work up how much it cost you for the day (the milage and gas costs, the time off from work using your sick leave), and write your surgeon a letter and let him know how much it cost you for his office managers oversight and ineffeciency. The least he could do is offer a formal apology. I'd be furious. He won't know unless you say something. It's also important that you weren't the only one sitting there waiting. There was someone else whom this affected. And the nurse said she contacted everyoone??? Didn't sound like it to me. If this is your first fill, I would definately wait for your surgeon to see you. That's his responsibility in my opinion.

I have been feeling really bad due to my hernia repair trauma  (a long story for another time). I was supposed to have my first fill last week, but I was in the hospital. Anyway, I set up another appointment for yesterday. My DH and I had quite a bit of running around to do, I was tired, I have this big vacuum pump attached to me and the strap around my neck...so I was having back and neck pain from that...plus it was 95 freakin degrees out.

I got to the doctors about 5 minutes early...just as they were calling my cell phone to let me know the doc was still in surgery. It would be a hour, minnimum. I was very unhappy, to say the least . I had the girl call the doc in the OR to find out if he was going to give me a fill when he saw me. He told her he didn't know... he would have to see me first. I was quite annoyed by this. I told her it was a long drive, and I wasn't going to come in "just to be seen" I told her I had seen enough doctors after a second surgery and a week in the hospital, and that when I come in on Monday (my rescheduled appt) I was going to be quite irate if I did not get a fill. I am still so ticked...

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
