Recommended Posts

Yesterday was my 6 month mark and I have lost 73 lbs to date, woo hoo.... I am really amazed at myself and proud that I have been able to do this. I also had my appt yesterday and had another fill which I am now at 8.5 cc in a 10cc band. I am thinking this is it for fills for me.:yikes:

Today's my 6 month anniversary and I've lost 32 lbs. I would have been dismayed at the beginning of my journey if someone had told me I'd only lose 32 lbs in 6 months but surprisingly, I'm OK with it. Not to say that I wouldn't have wanted to lose more, but I've never lost consistently for 6 months in the past so this is a good thing. I'm 1/3 to my goal and I just have a really good feeling about 2009. I'm positive I'll be at goal by my 1 year anniversary.

My six month anniversary was also this week. It's funny. . . Going into this thing, I had envisioned that by the six month mark I would have lost like 50 or 60 lbs. The fact that I have lost only 31 is a little depressing. It took me five fills, however, for the band to start working. I take a little pride in the fact that I basically did 27 lbs. with absolutely no restriction. I hope I lose more than 30 lbs. in the next 6 months, but the next 30 will probably actually be even slower. Oh, well, I'm trying to let this 6 month mark inspire me to do better and work harder and not to let it get me down. My main concern is that I have 7.5 cc's in a Realize Band. I am afraid that I am going to have the darn thing completely full before it really starts working for me. My good friend is only 2 months post surgery and she has lost the same amount as me---and she's confined to a wheelchair. Darn!

Well, one week short of my 6 month anniversary, and I am down 77. It would be woderful that, when I get to Jan. 25 if I am down 80... but not worried. Just happy that I am moving on!

I had surgery on July 3rd, 2008. I am down 80 lb from that date. I just got back from vacation at Disney World and for the first time I did not do so well with my eating. I am trying real hard not to beat myself up about it. I did not gain any weight but I sure didn't lose either. I am having a difficult time understanding how many fills I'm suppose to have and exactly what the sweet spot is. I still get very hungry in between meals. I am also having a HUGE problem in telling myself when to quit eating & understanding when I am full. Does anyone understand what I'm saying or what I'm going thru? Any advise would be very helpful.

:yikes:

I know exactly what you are going through. I have the same problem. I always wonder why you get tighter with fills making it harder to eat but still get hungry. Where is the sweet spot? I also have to make myself stop eating.

Donna, We share the same bandiversary date. I too thought I would have lost more by now. 21lb was prior to banding. I only have myself to blame because I haven't been diligent with the journaling or exercising. I am getting a fill on Monday, and I hope it will jump start me. Oh, by the way, I found the EDAMAME at Kroger. That is a good snack. Thanks for telling us about it.

I was banded on July 7th and I am down 70 from my surgery date, 93 from my highest weight when I first decided to go for the band. I have done well, I know, but for a few weeks I was too tight and developed bad reflux/gas. Last week I had a full cc removed from my band to prevent damage and I feel as though all my restriction is gone. My head hunger is so strong and I am worried that I will gain. I know that for health I had to do this but I now feel so out of contol(at night.) I can't wait until I can get a small fill in Feb. This time, I need to get filled slow! Anyone else share this experience. There is such a fine line between your "sweet spot" and being too full. The thing is that as I was losing quickly, my band really didn't loosen up and I made a mistake getting a fill. Anyone else relate?

Congrats to all. I'd say so far this has been a victory for all of us, because no one has said they have gained or even stayed the same.

Sorry you are going through this. But at least you know that you have some help coming in Feb. Good luck with the fill and let us know how the restriction is after!

Thanks for your support, Marie. I am off the pity pot today and feeling better. As long as I keep my Protein up with my attitude, I should be OK!

I have yoghurt for break... 1/2 cup only... light lunch . amost every day a poached egg on toast... 1/2 or one slice depending on how hungy I am and aa normal supper... chicken and veg or 400 cal... it is easy now that I have the right fill...so the only problem is not drinking calories...... thanks for allthe support.

I have not posted in since November, and lost my ticker. I weighed myself this morning and am 81 lbs lighter. I am so excited. I stopped weighing every week because I did not want to get discouraged. I was suprised this morning. I love my band.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
