Hi Nicole, I am usually on another thread but I like to search around once in awhile and I found your post. I too live in Buffalo, South Buffalo to be exact. My surgery is October 13th. It could have been September 22nd but I was busy. It has been a long process but I think I am ready. Actually I would have said I am ready but I was at the beach last week, eating more than usual and am having trouble getting back on track. I am a "light weight" and don't have a whole lot to loose - perhaps 60 total pounds would make me happy. I go to Buffalo General and will have Dr. Hoffman as my surgeon. It will be interesting to hear the perspective of a patient of another surgeon.

Let me know if you want to chat.

Linda

Hi Jen, I would be happy to correspond. But I also want to let you know of a site here with all patients of the CWL clinic at Buffalo General. Do a search for Lap band done in Buffalo, NY (Dr. Hoffman).

The first question I have is how are you doing since surgery. I am still waiting. It is October 13th. But I have been very proactive doing research, reading books etc. I am starting to get nervous. Do you go to the support meetings. I have been to the last two. the next one is September 17th at 6pm. Another thing is that a group of us walk on Saturday mornings at 8am. Dr. Hoffman started the group. Next, do you know who your new doctor is yet? Welcome to 20 questions.

I am anxious to hear your progress.

Hey no excuses. We still walk. This is Buffalo! I hope we walk as long as possible. I don't think the group has gone through a winter yet. I know I will be there this Saturday at 8am. It goes so fast when there is someone walking with you. We talk lapband the whole time. Last week there were four of us. Consider joining us. I will be at the hospital 3 Mondays in a row for pre op, weigh in, and surgery. Preop work is September 29th. Keep up the good work. I hope I lose 20 pounds in the first 9 weeks! Right now I think I will be afraid to eat anything but I guess if I get hungry enough I will. Any tips for a soon to be bander would be apprecited. Right now I am at the age where I have to stop my hormones before surgery. Not looking forward to the side effects! There is a support meeting next Wednesay at 6pm that I plan to go to also. Are you going? It would be great to see you there.

I have not yet attended a support group meeting but Iam considering going,do I need to RSVP or just show up?

Your surgery will be just find for some reason I was'nt nervous at all the day of my surgery before I knew it I was in recovery I dont remeber much, first week at home was a littel rough I actually enjoyed being on the liquad diet I had a hard time going back to solid food, I still cant believe its over and done with the surgery was the easy part I think now is the hardest trying to eat right and excersise.

Hi Jen, I see you went to the other site. Read past posts and you will find a lot of good information and people struggling with the same issues as you. You are suppossed to RSVP for the support meeting but I know people don't. I forgot last month. They are on the third Wednesday of the month at 6pm and are held on the first floor. There is a door to the left of the coffee vendor that says do not enter and you enter anyway. The number to call is 859-1168. They last between 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Was any of the 20 pounds you lost pre surgery? If not you are really doing great. I am down 20 pounds since first weigh in and I suspect I will lose some on Phase 1 the week prior to surgery.

Do you have any comorbiditys? I am looking forward to "curing" my diabetes and perhaps getting rid of my CPAP machine.

I have done a lot of research and read countless books. I have been on hold for a few weeks as I am extremely busy with work (I run a non profit and live where I work so I am lucky that I can work all day and night ) but as soon as it is over, Sept 23rd, I am going back to reading up on the procedure. Being afraid of compliance I am also seeing a therapist/nutritionist. She asked if I was nervous about losing weight and my new body image. I didn't think I was but from what I read a lot of people look in a mirror and still see an obese person. I know when I shop or look at catalogs I still lean towards items that are blousy or full rather than fitted.

Hope to meet you at a support meeting or in the park walking.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
