Recommended Posts

I can't believe my surgery date is finally nearly here!!!! It's been a long process. Only one more day, and I survived the 2 week liquid diet!!! Truly, ithe liquid diet wasn't bad at all. I am more excited than nervous. I will let you all know how everything goes. :)

Aug 8th is my band date, no pre-diet required by my doctor. I had my pre-op testing Friday. Have to go sign consent forms on the 6th as well as have a final exam. Match blood types on Thursday and then Friday morning I'm on the table!

Any idea why some of us poor souls get 2 weeks of all fluids before surgery and others only get one day? I know all doctors are different, but I was just wondering what the reasoning is behind it.:)

Hi Everyone,

I am getting really excited. I am leaving early Monday from Savannah to fly to California, then on to Tijuana for my surgery. I can't wait. I am pretty ready. Surgery on Tuesday then my birthday on Wednesday (will be in the hospital) It's my present to myself. I know it will be the best present I ever had.

Good luck to all of you that are having it soon too!!!!!!!!!

I am driving with my brother and sister in law to San Diego where they will stay and visit while I have my surgery in Tijuana. I am bringing my 8 year old and he is going to hang out with his cousins while "Mommy is at her conference" They want to be nearby to make sure all goes well.

Where in Mexico are you going?

Hi, All! I'm getting banded on Aug. 26. My preop workup is Aug. 12, and I have to do a week of Medifast. I look forward to hearing all about the surgery and great weight loss from those who have been banded before me.

MaryD-At my Dr.'s office, your BMI determines how long you have to do the preop diet. Over 40 BMI is 2 weeks, Under 40 is 1 week. This is because the higher the BMI, the greater the chance of a fatty liver. They want to give you enough time on a very low cal diet to make sure your body uses the fat reserves around the liver. I guess the drs who do not require it aren't too worried about dealing with an enlarged liver.

Thanks, Maribelle. That makes perfect sense. Maybe if I had known that in advance I would have tried to lose enough weight a few months ago to keep my BMI under 40! It would have certainly been a good motivator. Oh, well, only three more days until banding now, so it has been well worth the effort.

KRTORK: I am also having surgery August 5th and the panics have sunk in. I was thinking the same thing - what if they can't do it and such. I will be glad when it is all over with and I am back home recuperating!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
