What part of missouri are you from? I hope your surgery went well. I know this liquid has been tough and i have bent it a little but 90% has been liquid. Let me know how things went and i will get back at you when i get home next week as well. Hope things went well!

Good morning! I'm from Festus, MO about 30 miles south of St. Louis. I posted by surgery story under "surgery stories". To sum it up, what a breeze. I expected it to be far worse than it was. I'm not going to lie, I am sore around the middle, especially the left side. I understand this is normal because this is wear the port is. After reading some of the other port location stories, I did make sure with my doctor where the port would be. I did not want it right under my left breast and have by bra rub it constantly.

I had my clear liquid diet yesterday and I am suppose to be able to start some of the creamy liquids now for the next two weeks. I am a little nervous about this. But I do want to be sure to get the nutrients in I need. I have noticed that each doctor has their paitents eating different things at different times. Someone posted on their first day they were eating eggs. I can not imagine that! Slow and easy...that is what we need to do.

I will be thinking about you tomorrow and I know everything will go well for you. Trust yourself, your doctor and God. Everything will be great! Can't wait to hear how your surgergy went. What time do you go in tomorrow and begin your new life?

I have to arrive at the hospital at 7:30 a.m. and it should take place around 9:30 a.m. Than am told should be out by 5 as long as i am able to go pee on my own. I'm a bit nervous though because i ate a few things here and there. I read you could eat Protein and dark green vegetables so i had broccoli yesterday and egg drop Soup so hoping that doesn't mess things up. Glad things went great for you and are you going to be posting pictures? Like the before and then progress pictures. I have noticed several aren't really losing much weight though and wondering if that is because they aren't exercising. Well no turning back now and i just have to remember the "big" picture, i will be able to ride roller coasters w/my 12 yr. old!! YAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

Yes, I'll post pictures in the next day or so. I had my daughter take a picture of me the night before I started the preop liquid diet and again the day of my surgery. I thought that with each doctor's appointment I would take a picture to see the progress this way versus just the scale. Good luck tomorrow. You will be fine.

How did the surgery go? I went back to work on Tuesday and am doing great! It is exciting to see the progress of everyone writing in. To be 78 lbs lighter...I can only imagine at this point. I was wondering how others are dealing with people asking questions of why were you off work. I'm afraid / ashamed to tell people right now that I've had the lap band. To me I feel like I have failed myself because I could not lose the weight on my own. I'm hoping to eventually be able to tell people what I've had done and to be proud that I've had the motivation to finally get this weight off.

Sportscar,

My surgery went fine, with no problems. I had tried my hardest to just tell people I was taking time off with no deep questions. I did confide in a few people that I KNEW would not say anything about the band... Wronggggggggggggg.. I came back from surgery and everyone knew, one of the guys had went around telling everyone.. "but dont tell her I told you.. she doesnt want anyone to know".. they all told me he had told them.

Anyway,, just tell them you needed some personal time off.

As time goes, you will feel better about the surgery and telling people. I know I do.

Best of luck and let me know if you have any questions.

oh.. a link that has before and after pics..

Hi All ! I am not from MO. , but I had my surgery at St Alexius Hosp. in St. Louis 16 months ago. Things are going great with the band. It's something I will never regret. Deedra , I hope you're getting around and feeling pretty good by now. I live in south central Illinois. As far as exercise the most I really do is walking a 2-3 miles 3-4 times a week. I wish I would have done resistance training early on tho' because after losing 112 lbs. my skin is really starting to sag but most of it is where clothes can cover it. LOL !:) Good luck to all of you ! My weight loss has been continuous so far with little complications. If I can do it , I know that you all can too.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
